Huskies shoot 54.2% from the floor in the loss
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the 2021-22 season Tuesday evening. Despite sharp shooting from their top scorers, the Huskies fell to Clarke University 94-89
GAME SUMMARY
St. Cloud State opened with a strong offensive and defensive game plan, shooting out to a 10-5 lead just minutes into regulation. After a slow start, the Pride eventually got hot from three point range, going 10-19 and claiming a 49-44 lead over the Huskies at the half. Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) and Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington) accounted for most of St. Cloud State's first half offense, scoring 14 and 13 points respectively.
The Huskies tried to regain momentum in the early minutes of the first half, as two quick baskets and a block by Josh Tomasi (Melbourne, Australia / Box Hill) allowed St. Cloud State to pull within three at 51-48. The Huskies continued to hold the momentum, closing the gap to 70-68 before taking its first lead since the first half at 71-70. St. Cloud State continued to put up a fight, but was forced to foul, as Clarke made a three in the dwindling seconds and the Huskies failed to score on the ensuing possession. The Pride connected on their final free throws, clinching the 94-89 win over St. Cloud State.
TOP HUSKIES
- Roberts ended the game as the Huskies leading scorer and rebounder, scoring 28 points on 10-16 shooting with nine rebounds. He additionally added one assist and two steals.
- Donaldson added 21 points in the loss, while Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) scored 13 on 4-7 shooting, including a 3-6 mark from three-point range. Josh Tomasi (Melbourne, Australia / Box Hill) was the final St. Cloud State student-athlete to score in double-digits with 12 points.

The Huskies will hit the road for another nonconference game, as they take on Minnesota State on Saturday, November 20. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Mankato, Minnesota.
