St. Cloud State Baseball (10-9, 8-6 NSIC) wraps up their 10-game homestand with a two-game midweek series on Thursday versus Upper Iowa (11-11, 9-8 NSIC). First pitch of the doubleheader's first game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CST with game two to follow. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, the series has been moved due to inclement weather conditions.

The Huskies and Peacocks have met 22 times since the all-time series began in 1969, with SCSU holding a 19-3 record against UIU. In their last meeting, a midweek series in Fayette during the 2019 season, the Huskies swept Upper Iowa and outscored them 32-5 across the two games.
Scouting the Huskies
SCSU enters the series sitting sixth in the NSIC standings with an 8-6 conference record coming off a two-games-to-one weekend win over Sioux Falls. The Huskies' bats are second in the conference in hitting with a .318 average, and the pitching staff ranks third in ERA at 4.36 while leading all teams with a 2.62 mark in NSIC play. Thursday's set is the Huskies' last home series before a brief three-game road trip to Duluth this weekend.
At the plate, the Huskies are highlighted by centerfielder John Nett's .362/.477/.594 triple slash to go with five doubles, a triple, three home runs, 24 runs scored, 16 RBI and 15:9 BB:K ratio. Nett sets the table for a lineup that boasts 10 players with an average of .300 or better and five with an OPS above 1.000. Third baseman Tate Wallat (.305/.364/.542, 3 2B, 3B, 3 HR) carries an eight-game hitting streak into the midweek and hit two home runs against Sioux Falls. Rightfielder Matt Quade (.355/.414/.597, 2B, 3B, 4 HR, 20 RBI), first baseman Jake Shusterich (.353/.453/.608, 4 2B, 3 HR, 12 RBI) and catcher Caleb Marquez (.977 OPS, 3 2B, 4 HR, 21 RBI) anchor the heart of the order, while Max Gamm (.329/.420/.429, 16 R, 11 SB) has been an on-base fiend in the two-hole.
Jack Habeck owns the role of SCSU's fireman, owning a 5-0 record in seven appearances and one start with a 1.25 ERA (second in the NSIC) and a 0.65 WHIP across 21.2 innings. The southpaw has allowed just nine hits for an NSIC-best .118 opponent average with 18 strikeouts to just five walks and has yet to surrender a run in six conference outings. Mack Larson is scheduled to make his first NSIC start in game two, carrying a 4.26 ERA with a save in four relief appearances and 6.1 innings of work. In conference play, the bullpen has been anchored by Eli Emerson (5.1 IP, 1.69 ERA, 7 K), Nick Brauns (4 APP, 2.70 ERA), Jacob Bradley (2 APP, 0.00 ERA) and Tommy Tompson (12.0 IP, 4.50 ERA).
Scouting the Peacocks
Upper Iowa is coached by former SCSU catcher Jeremy Ische, who served a critical role as the Huskies' backup behind Nate Hammes in 2009 and Travis Enger in 2011. Currently knotted in a tie for seventh in the NSIC standings, the Peacocks enter the series fresh off a weekend series win on the road at Northern State, winning 16-9 and 4-3 in 12.0 innings Friday and falling 9-4 Saturday.
Two-sport standout Jake Hilmer leads Upper Iowa with a .364 average and .875 OPS and is tied for the team runs lead with 18. Alex Greene (.342/.414/.447, 17 RBI) and Hogan Penny (.314/.372/.400, 16 RBI) join Hilmer as the lone qualifiers with averages of .300 or better. Upper Iowa has hit just six home runs on the season and has just one player (Ryan Hull) with multiple long balls.
Upper Iowa ace Duncan Snider made two starts last week on two day's rest and is 2-1 with a 3.51 ERA across six starts and 33.1 innings. The 6'7 righthander has struck out 32 and walked 20 with a .259 opponent average. The Peacocks bullpened their second midweek game after Snider's start, opening with Colin Lacey (2-0, 11.25 ERA, 5 APP/1 GS). UIU's pen features stellar closer Chris Webber, having allowed just one earned in nine appearances and 15.0 frames with three saves, a 17:3 K:BB ratio and a .167 BAA. Keaton Parker (21.0 IP, 2.57 ERA, 20:7 K:BB, .222 BAA), Jason Katz (7.2 IP, 3.52 ERA, 8:2 K:BB), Brennan Sefrit (9 APP, 4.76 ERA, 5.2 IP, 9 K) and Steve Marhefke (8.1 IP, 5.40 ERA, 11 K) round out one of the league's more formidable bullpens.
