St. Cloud State Baseball (22-12, 18-9 NSIC) has found themselves extremely well-represented for another season on the All-NSIC Teams, landing four student-athletes among the very best of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Freshman centerfielder John Nett earned First Team All-NSIC honors while junior shortstop Max Gamm along with the senior duo of first baseman Jake Shusterich and rightfielder Matt Quade were named Second Team All-NSICÂ as part of the conference's release on Tuesday.
"I'm really happy for the guys as they are all very well-deserving," said head coach Pat Dolan, "And we even had a few that just probably missed out. With 15 teams in the NSIC being named All-Conference is quite the accomplishment!"
Both Shusterich and Quade picked up the third All-Conference honors of their respective collegiate careers, while Nett and Gamm have been named All-Conference for the first time. Shusterich earned First Team All-Western State Conference his freshman year and Honorable Mention All-Western State Conference as a sophomore at Allen Hancock College (2018-19), while Quade was a First Team All-Minnesota College Athletic Conference selection in 2017 and 2018 at St. Cloud Technical & Community College.
Nett has started all 34 games in the leadoff spot for St. Cloud State this year and led the NSIC in on-base percentage with a .541 mark in the regular season. All in all, he slashed .394/.541/.615 for a 1.155 OPS and a .513 wOBA, eight doubles, two triples and four home runs while scoring 43 runs and driving in 27 with 15 stolen bases and a 10.7%:22.8% K:B ratio.
Gamm began 2021 as the Huskies' second baseman before moving to shortstop midway through the year. The junior started all 32 regular-season games, slashing .331/.407/.435 for an .843 OPS with 27 runs scored, four doubles, three triples, a home run and 16 RBI. Gamm stole 17 bags on 19 tries, drew walks at a 10.3% clip while striking out in just 12.4% of his plate appearances. He led all NSIC shortstops in batting average with his .331 mark.
Shusterich finished second in the NSIC on-base percentage race with a .504 clip in 2021, posting a .385/.504/.648 triple-slash for a 1.153 OPS and a .513 wOBA. The Huskies' anchor in the cleanup spot blasted 12 doubles and four home runs while scoring 22 runs and knocking in another 29. True to his form as an on-base fiend, Shusterich drew walks in 14.5% of his plate appearances.
Rounding out the Huskies' All-NSIC selections, Quade led St. Cloud State with 34 RBI while producing a .366/.429/.598 slash line for a 1.027 OPS. SCSU's rightfielder clubbed nine doubles, a triple and five long balls while scoring 18 runs in 31 games started.
St. Cloud State Baseball has had at least three All-NSIC Honorees every season of their membership in the Northern Sun dating back to 2009.
