ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University baseball team has a new pitching coach. Huskies head coach Pat Dolan announced Mitch McIntyre has been named the new pitching coach Friday morning.
"We are very fortunate to have a coach at this caliber with experience at both the professional and Division I level," Dolan said of McIntyre in a statement. "He has a great level of knowledge in the analytic side of the game and experience with pitching technology, including Rapsodo and Driveline."
McIntyre joins St. Cloud State after serving as the pitching coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. During this time, McIntyre was in charge of the Spartans' 18-member pitching staff both on practice and game day and was responsible for practices, pitch calling and bullpen management during his time at Southwestern. Additionally, McIntyre managed velocity and pitch count during his time with the Spartans and was responsible for recruiting and pitcher development.
McIntyre additionally has experience coaching at the high school level. In the spring of 2021, McIntyre started the Omaha Aces travel baseball team, where he serves as both the owner and head coach. He also coached the Omaha Railriders during the summer of 2020 and worked as a pitching coordinator and instructor with Strikezone Omaha.
McIntyre's pitching resume is as impressive as his coaching one. A native of Wichita, Kansas, McIntyre played college baseball at Wichita State for a season before transferring to national powerhouse Iowa Western Community College. In his single season with the Reiver's, McIntyre posted a 9-2 record with a 2.83 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched. He additionally tallied 78 strikeouts during the season and earned First Team All-Region and National Pitcher of the Week honors during the 2015 season.
After missing the 2016 and 2017 seasons recovering from Tommy John Surgery, McIntyre transferred to Tabor College where he posted a 9-2 record during his redshirt senior season in 2018. He then began his pro baseball career, signing with the Milwaukee Brewers as an undrafted free agent later that summer. As a member of the Brewers rookie ball team, McIntyre posted a 2.41 ERA in 18.2 innings pitched with 23 strikeouts before playing for the Joliet Slammers in the summer of 2019.Â
