DENVER, Colo. – No. 7/6 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (14-9-1, 6-7-1 NCHC) dropped the second game of a road series with No. 4/3 Denver (20-5-1, 13-3-0 NCHC), 2-0, on Saturday night at Magness Arena in Denver, Colo. The score was 1-0 until late in the third period when the Pioneers pulled away with a second goal with a 5-on-3 advantage with less than four minutes remaining in the game.

TURNING POINT

St. Cloud State was buzzing in the third period looking for an equalizer when back-to-back penalties were called on the Huskies, severely hurting their chances at finding the back of the net. First, graduate defenseman Seamus Donohue (North Oaks, Minn.) was called for a cross-check with 5:48 remaining in the third period, then senior defenseman Brendan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) with a five-minute boarding penalty with 4:24 remaining.

The penalties put St. Cloud State in a 5-on-3 disadvantage, where Denver was able to sneak a one-timer to the back of the net. Denver would be called for a penalty shortly after, setting up 4-on-4 play, where the Huskies pulled their goalie to gain an extra attacker, but couldn't find the back of the net.
