
St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Falls to Minnesota Duluth in NCHC Quarterfinals

Huskies held 2-0 lead heading into third period, but fall 4-3 in OT
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 9 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (18-14-4, 10-10-4 NCHC) fell in overtime to No. 10 Minnesota Duluth (18-15-4, 10-10-4 NCHC), 4-3, in the second game of the NCHC Quarterfinals on Saturday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The Huskies had a 2-0 lead entering the third period, but the Bulldogs scored three times in the third period, including one with just under three minutes in regulation, and one in overtime to clinch the victory and advance to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff in St. Paul, Minn., next weekend.
TURNING POINT
St. Cloud State held a 2-0 lead heading into the third period before Minnesota Duluth scored power play goals in the first 3:30 of the game to knot the score at 2-2. Senior defenseman Nick Perbix (Elk River, Minn.) scored 11 seconds later to give the Huskies the lead back, but the momentum was shifted in the period, as that was the only shot St. Cloud State had all period. With just under three minutes to go in regulation, Tanner Laderoute scored the game-tying goal to force overtime.
Olympian Noah cates would score the game-winning goal in overtime, netting his second goal of the game at 10:58 to seal the 4-3 win for the Bulldogs.

- Junior Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) and junior defenseman Ondrej Trejbal (Hamry nad Sazavau, Czech Republic) each recorded career-best marks of two assists.
- Junior goalie Jaxon Castor (Phoenix, Ariz.) made a career-high 37 saves in the game.
- The Huskies scored a goal in the opening period to improve to 44-15 against its opponents in the opening frame.
- Perbix scored twice in the game to record his second career multi-goal game and first in over three years, last doing so against Minnesota Duluth on March 8, 2019.
- Perbix's six goals this season is the second-most he has recorded in a season, trailing only the seven he scored last season. His 31-point total this season far exceeds his previous best of 23 in 2020-21.
- Okabe and Trejbal each matched a career-best for assists with two, Trejbal doing so for the fifth time in his career, while Okabe did it for the sixth time.
- Castor made a career-high 37 saves in the game, surpassing his previous best of 31 against Wisconsin on Oct. 23, 2021.
- Junior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) scored his 15th goal of the season to reach the 30-point total this season.
