ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University softball team has spent a lot of quality time in the Husky Dome this spring. The Huskies will spend even more time there on Wednesday. Due to inclement weather in Moorhead, Minnesota, St. Cloud State and MSU Moorhead agreed to a site reversal, meaning Wednesday's conference doubleheader will now be played in the Husky Dome.
First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minnesota with game two to follow. Due to NSIC policy, St. Cloud State will serve as the visiting team, and the Dragons will remain the home team. Live stats and video will be available through www.scsuhuskies.com and score updates will continue to be made on the team's Twitter page (@SCSUHUSKIES_SB).Â
Here are the five things to know before Wednesday's site reversal:
2 - This is the Huskies second site reversal of the NSIC season, as they already needed to swap places with Minnesota-Duluth in their conference opener. St. Cloud State was supposed to open the NSIC schedule in Duluth, Minnesota, both cold temperatures forced the Bulldogs and Huskies inside for the first conference doubleheader of 2022. That switch boded well for St. Cloud State, which swept Minnesota-Duluth for the first time since the early 2010s last Tuesday.Â
.619 - No one had a better start to NSIC play than Raven Vanden Langenberg (Seymour, Wis. / Seymour). The senior hit .619 over the course of six games, leading the Huskies to sweeps against the Bulldogs, Mary and Minot State. Vanden Langenberg currently leads St. Cloud State in batting average, hits (13), on base percentage (.619) and stolen bases (5) after the opening weekend of conference play and ranks second in slugging (1.095).
10 - It wasn't just Vanden Langenberg who stole the show for the Huskies. In fact, the whole team was superb, as St. Cloud State is now 6-0 in NSIC play and enters Wednesday's contest riding a 10 game win streak.Â
4 - On the flip side, the Dragons are struggling at the start of the NSIC season. Despite earning a sweep against Northern State to open the season, MSU Moorhead has dropped its last four contests to Bemidji State and Minnesota-Crookston, falling to 5-17 overall and 2-4 in NSIC play. In fact, three of the Dragons five wins this season have occurred in the last two weeks, including the sweep of the Wolves.
20 - That's not to say MSU Moorhead has struggled offensively in conference play. Jordey Smith and Avery Steffen have earned 20 at bats in the first six games of the NSIC schedule, which ranks top-10 in the conference, while the Dragons themselves have earned 146 at bats in six conference games. That doesn't necessarily equate to a good batting average, however. MSU Moorhead has tallied just 38 hits against NSIC opponents this season for a .260 team batting average.
