
Errors plague Huskies in series-opening loss

St. Cloud State allows four unearned runs in 9-2 loss to Nova Southeastern
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – St. Cloud State Baseball (4-5, 0-0 NSIC) committed three errors and surrendered four unearned runs in a 9-2 loss to Nova Southeastern (8-9, 3-3 SSC) on Thursday evening in Fort Lauderdale. The Huskies collected just five hits and struck out 14 times, struggling to put the ball in play throughout the night.
Nova Southeastern struck first in the fourth inning with a three-spot. The Huskies answered quickly in the top of the fifth as Sawyer Smith (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) poked a two-run double down the left field line to plate Tate Wallat (0-for-2, 2 BB, R) and Brayden Jacobson (0-for-1, BB, R). Nova bounced back with two runs in the home half then added one in the sixth and three on an error in the seventh for the 9-2 difference.
John Nett (1-for-4, BB) reached twice in the loss while Drew Bulson (1-for-4), Otto Grimm (1-for-2) and Mitchell Gumbko (1-for-1) each collected a base hit. Riley Ahern grinded out 4.0 innings of five-hit ball, allowing three runs – two earned – while striking out one and walking three to take his first loss of the season.
Game two of the series is set for Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. CT in Fort Lauderdale.
