SCSU improves to 4-1-0 on the season with seventh consecutive win over UMD

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (4-1-0, 1-0-0 NSIC) opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play with a 2-1 win over Minnesota Duluth (1-3-1, 0-1-0 NSIC). The win marked the third consecutive victory for the Huskies and the seventh straight win over the Bulldogs.

Sophomore forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and freshman forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) provided the scoring to propel the Huskies to the victory.

TURNING POINT

SCSU jumped out to an early lead following a goal from Primerano, as sophomore midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) made a pass up to the Husky forward, who got past two Bulldog defenders and beat the UMD goalie near-side to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute.

The Huskies would add a goal later in the 35^th minute from freshman forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.), which proved to be the game-winning goal after UMD scored in the 87^th minute.

Primerano gave the Huskies the early lead with her first career goal in the eighth minute.
Trapino scored her second goal of the season and recorded her first career game-winning goal.
Quam and freshman defender Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) added assists for the Huskies.

NOTES

With the win, St. Cloud State improves to 13-19-8 all-time against Minnesota Duluth, extending its win streak against the Bulldogs to seven matches dating back to Sept. 9, 2018.
During the seven-game win streak, SCSU has outscored the Bulldogs 17-4 with three shutouts.
SCSU's 4-1-0 start to the season is the Huskies best five-game start to a season since 2000 when it reached the same mark.
Primerano scored her first career goal with her first half score.
Playing in just her fifth collegiate game, Trapino found the back of the net for the second consecutive game and second time this season. The score also marked her first career game-winning goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) made three saves and earned the victory in the net for the Huskies.
