Parsons and Olson find back of the net, Huskies earn first win over Vikings since 2013
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Following another multiple goal game from its offensive attack, St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (6-2-0, 3-1-0 NSIC) earned a victory over Augustana (3-3-2, 1-2-1 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon at Husky Stadium. The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead following goals from redshirt junior midfielder Gracie Parsons (Omaha, Neb.) and freshman defender Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), and held on after a late attempted comeback from the Vikings.
The win was the Huskies' first in 10 games over the Vikings, as its last win came on Oct. 4, 2013, a 4-2 win in St. Cloud.
TURNING POINT
SCSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on Parsons' first goal of the season. In the 22nd minute, the Huskies played a ball up the left side of the field on a breakaway. Sophomore forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) was able to get around a Viking defender and get a good shot towards the goal, as the goalkeeper was able to deflect the shot, but not corral it, as Parsons was there for the rebound, as she hammered to the back of the net for the score.
The Huskies came out of the locker room with a 1-0 lead, and it didn't take long for them to strike again. In the 50th minute, Olson took a free kick from around 35 yards out that snuck through many Huskies, defenders and the goalkeeper for SCSU's second goal of the game.
Augustana scored in the 72nd minute, but the Huskies were able to hold an equalizing goal to improve to 3-1 in conference play.
