
Huskies Explode for 28 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of UC Colorado Springs

Huskies take series win with offensive outburst, key starts from Tupy and Habeck
GAME 1 – SCSU 12, UCCS 8
Tupy was dominant in the doubleheader's first game, pitching 6.1 innings while only allowing a solo home run in the seventh inning before turning it over to the bullpen. Tupy carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and recorded 12 strike outs in the game.
SCSU started the scoring in the second inning with freshman Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) and redshirt senior Noah Dehne (St. Paul, Minn.) launching solo home runs. Guthrie then added his second RBI of the game with a bases-loaded walk in the third inning to make the score 3-0.
The Huskies then scored three runs in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth to break the game open. Redshirt junior Garrett Bevacqua (Carlsbad, Calif.), Dehne and redshirt sophomore Brayden Jacobson (West Fargo, N.D.) all knocked in runs in the fifth inning. Graduate Cal James (Buffalo, Minn.) got the rally started in the sixth inning with a two-run home run, his second home run in as many days.
UC Colorado Springs attempted a rally in the ninth, scoring seven runs, but junior Sawyer Smith (Somers, Wis.) came on in relief and got the last out for the Huskies.

- Tupy flirted with his third career no-hitter, going six innings before allowing his first hit. His 12 strike outs is the third-best performance of his career and the most since he struck out 13 against Minnesota Crookston on April 29, 2022.
- Tupy's 12 punchouts are the second-most by an NSIC pitcher this season, trailing only Minnesota Duluth's Kolby Kiser's 13 also recorded today.
- On the season, Tupy is now 2-0 with a 3.43 ERA with an NSIC-leading 31 strike outs.
- James launched his third home run of the season and second in as many games while recording his 12th and 13th RBIs.
- Dehne had a career-game, posting career-highs in hits (three) and runs (four) while launching his first home run of the season.
- Dehne's four runs scored are the most by a Husky this season and match an NSIC-best this season.
- Guthrie hit his first career home run and matched a season-best with two RBI.
- Senior Drew Beier (Foley, Minn.) had a season-best and matched a career-best with three hits.
- Smith matched a season-best with three hits.
After SCSU and UCCS traded runs in the first inning, the Huskies exploded for six runs in each of the third and fourth innings to break the second game open.
Two triples and two doubles sparked the rally in the third inning with James and Smith providing the triples while junior Ethan Navratil (Albany, Minn.) and Beier recording the doubles. In the fourth inning, Navratil launched a two-run home run, while Bevacqua and Dehne each had two-run doubles.
Habeck pitched six innings while allowing three runs (two earned) to earn the victory in the game, while senior Cooper Avery (Fort Myers, Fla.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to end the game early in a run-rule.

- Beier finished a remarkable doubleheader by going 6-for-9 at the plate to raise his average to a team-leading .444 on the season. His three hits matched a season- and career-best from the first game of the doubleheader.
- Habeck earned the victory in the game by going six innings with five strike outs while only allowing two earned runs. With his performance, he lowered his season ERA from 11.70 to 8.44.
- Navratil broke out of a slump with a 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, double and season-high three RBI.
- Jacobson and redshirt freshman Archer Ogbourne (Carlisle, Iowa) each hit their first career home runs in the game.
- James had another pair of hits as he has now recorded two hits in seven of the last eight games. He has hit safely in 11 of 13 games this season with a season average of .367 and 15 RBI (third-most in NSIC).
St. Cloud State will play a single game against CSU Pueblo on Monday, Feb. 26 to close its four-game stand in Colorado. The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. CT.
