ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Former St. Cloud State Baseball standout Ethan Lanthier (Northfield, Minn.) was selected by the New York Mets in the 2024 MLB Draft on Tuesday. Lanthier, who pitched the 2024 season with Kansas (D-I, Big 12), was selected by the Mets in the 12th round (353rd overall).
"We are really happy for Ethan and his family as he put a lot of work into his game," said head coach Pat Dolan. "It will be exciting following him in his professional career. He has the talent and the work ethic to climb the ladder in the minor leagues."
The 6-5 right-hander was a vital member of the Jayhawk bullpen in 2024, as he finished the season with a 4-0 record and a 4.54 ERA in 20 appearances. Eleven of his 20 outings lasted more than one inning. Prior to the season, he was named to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List.
In two seasons with the Huskies (2022-23), Lanthier went 7-2 with a 3.67 ERA across 29 appearances and 68.2 innings pitched. He earned All-NSIC First Team and D2CCA Second Team All-Region honors in 2022 following an outstanding freshman campaign where he went 6-0 in 13 appearances out of the bullpen (two starts, 15 appearances total) with a 2.43 ERA, .138 opposing batting average and 48:17 strikeout-walk ratio. Lanthier pitched 2.2 innings in relief with five strikeouts while only allowing one hit to record the win for the Huskies over Minnesota State in the 2023 NSIC Tournament semifinal, lifting SCSU to the championship round and eventually the tournament title.
