MADISON, Wis. – No. 11 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (12-9-4, 7-9-3 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) fell to No. 1 Wisconsin, 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at LaBahn Arena in Madison.
The Badgers (25-1-1, 19-1-1 WCHA) opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the game before SCSU responded with a goal of its own just under two minutes later when fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) scored a goal from just inside the blue line to tie the game at one. Wisconsin wasted to time taking the lead back, scoring its second goal just 26 seconds after the equalizer from the Huskies.
Wisconsin added two goals, one power play and one even strength, early in the second period to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
The Huskies emptied their net on a power play to give themselves a 6-on-4 opportunity with just under eight minutes left in the final period, but the UW converted on a shot from its own goal line to take a 5-1 lead. Wisconsin was called for a penalty with 21 seconds left in the game and SCSU emptied its net again. Gentry won the ensuing draw and sophomore defender Carmen Bray (Nanaimo, British Columbia) collected the puck and sent a pass to senior defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn) who scored a goal from the right point to give the Huskies their second goal of the game.
