Huskies eye fifth Top-10 win
St. Cloud, Minn.- No. 1 St. Cloud State Wrestling (10-0, 5-0 NSIC) will take to the mat on Friday, Jan 31 as they wrestle against No. 2 Wisconsin-Parkside at Halenbeck Hall. The dual is set for 5:30 p.m.

For the fourth consecutive National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, the Huskies were tabbed the No. 1 ranked team in Division II. St. Cloud State accumulated 88 points to rank first. They were followed by Glenville State (65.5), Wisconsin-Parkside (65.5), Nebraska-Kearney (65.0) and Central Oklahoma (64.5) to round out the top 5.
St. Cloud State holds nine ranked wrestlers which is tied for the most in Division II.

Last Time Out
St. Cloud State traveled to Kearney, NE. this past weekend as they faced off against the No. 4 Lopers.
Â
The dual kicked off at 125 where Conor Knopick came up with an 18-5 victory to put the first points on the board with a major decision. The Lopers would capture two shutout wins in the next two matches as No. 8 Sam Spencer would be defeated 8-0 and then No. 13 Alyeus Craig lost 2-0 to No. 9 Joseph Airola. Trailing 7-4, No. 13 Colby Njos came up with a pin in 51 seconds as the Huskies would go back on top 10-7. The newly touted No. 1 wrestler at 157 Joel Jesuroga stayed unbeaten on the year as he came away with a 7-2 decision against Cael Robb. Moving to 165, No. 3 Nick Novak lost 5-3 to No. 6 Trenton Munoz. The match then came to a tie as No. 2 Bryce Dagel would be defeated 4-1 in sudden victory as the Lopers appeared to have momentum on their side. At 184, No. 9 Bryce FitzPatrick came up with a big 11-2 major decision against No. 8 Jacari Deal to give St. Cloud State a 17-13 lead. Moving to 197, No. 2 Dominic Murphy faced off against No. 5 Jackson Kinsella. After a defensive oriented three periods, the match headed into sudden victory as the match would be tied 1-1 after both wrestlers earned an escape point. No scoring would occur in overtime as the match would head into a tiebreaker. Choosing to defer to start the tiebreaker, Murphy rode Kinsella for 14 seconds before Kinsella escaped to now lead 2-1. The wrestlers moved out of bounds before resetting at neutral. After starting at neutral, Murphy attacked a single led of Kinsella where he ultimately worked his way towards the clutch takedown. Moving into the second tiebreaker period, Murphy blocked all shot attempts by Kinsella in the period as No. 2 Dominic Murphy defeated No. 5 Jackson Kinsella 5-2. St. Cloud State now held a 20-13 lead as No. 5 La'Ron Parks took to the mat against No. 1 Crew Howard. Howard would ultimately pin Parks, but it would not matter as No. 1 St. Cloud State stayed undefeated with a 20-19 victory over No. 4 Nebraska-Kearney.

NSIC Wrestler of the Week
Following the win over Nebraska-Kearney, Dominic Murphy as named NSIC Wrestler of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. Murphy sealed the match for the Huskies with a 5-2 tiebreaker win over No. 5 Jackson Kinsella. This is the third wrestler of the week honor for Murphy in his career.

Series History
Heading into Friday's dual against Wisconsin-Parkside, the Huskies have won eight of the past nine matchups against the Rangers. The teams faced off in Kenosha, Wis. last year where the Huskies came away with a 27-6 victory.

The dual began at 197 pounds with Dominic Murphy, as he started the Huskies off on the right foot with a 7-2 win over Chase Stegall. Elijah Novak then avenged his loss to Lloyd Reynolds from a season ago with a 4-3 win to double SCSU's lead to 6-0.
Parkside earned a win at 125 pounds before the Husky tandem of Caleb Meekins and Alyeus Craig came to the mat. First up, Meekins scored a takedown just seconds into his match against No. 6 Matthew Chi and controlled the majority of the match before catching Chi on his back near the end of the second period. Meekins was able to secure a pin at the 4:52 mark of the match and sent the SCSU bench into much excitement. Next, Craig squared up against No. 2 Cayden Henschel and did not back down. Craig's takedown in the third period gave him a 5-4 lead and he was able to hold on and fend off a reversal attempt from Henschel to secure the 5-4 win.
The back-to-back wins started a six-match win streak for the Huskies in the dual, as Colby Njos, Nick Novak, Anthony Herrera and Cole Glazier followed with decision victories to seal the match for the Huskies. Njos beat No. 12 Jalen Spuhler via 4-2 decision while Novak improved to 16-0 on the season with a 13-6 win over Ben Durcoher. In just his second dual of the season and first against a ranked opponent, Glazier notched a 5-1 win over No. 6 Brody Hemauer, arguably his best win of the season as he improves to 21-1 in his freshman campaign.

The Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers come into this dual with the Huskies ranked as the No. 2 team in Division II via the latest NWCA Poll. The Rangers currently hold a 10-2 record with a 4-1 mark in conference play. The Rangers have accumulated a plethora of ranked wins as they have beaten No. 24 Maryville, No. 21 Central Missouri, No. 11 UMary, No. 8 Augustana, and No. 6 Grand Valley State. At the NWCA National Duals, the Rangers placed fifth in the event after going 4-1 with the lone loss coming to No. 5 Central Oklahoma.

In the latest NWCA Poll, the Rangers totaled eight ranked wrestlers including Shane Corrigan (No. 12 at 125), Matt Chi (No. 5 at 133), Cayden Henschel (No. 1 at 141), Easton Worachek (No. 11 at 149), Ben Durocher (No. 7 at 157), Dajun Johnson (No. 9 at 165), Reece Worachek (No. 3 at 184), and Lloyd Reynolds (No. 7 at 285).

Head Coach Nick Becker enters his fourth season with Wisconsin-Parkside in the 2024-25 season. During his tenure, Becker has accumulated a 36-6 record while coaching nine All-Americans. Under Becker's guidance, the Rangers have finished 7th, 15th, and 14th at the National Tournament.
