Quam scores in the first half for the Huskies

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (6-1-3, 4-1-2 NSIC) dropped its first game of the season, a 2-1 setback to Bemidji State (6-2-2, 4-1-2 NSIC) on Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. Each team scored a goal in the first half, but Bemidji State was able to successfully execute a corner kick in the second period for the difference.

TURNING POINT

After Bemidji State scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 15^th minute, SCSU scored in the 35^th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) hammered home a goal from just outside the box off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jordan Kardelis (Musekgo, Wis.).

The game was evenly played for the rest of the contest, with both teams controlling play and having chances to score with Bemidji State being the one to pull through and find the back of the net in the 74^th minute on a corner kick.

Quam scored her first goal of the season in the first half.
Kardelis recorded her third assist of the season.

NOTES

With the loss, SCSU moves to 10-14-3 all-time against the Beavers.
Shot on goal were even at 5-5 while the Huskies held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-2.
Bemidji State's goal in the 15^th minute ended a 496-minute streak where the Huskies held their opponents scoreless.
Quam scored her first goal of the season and her sixth point of the season. Her 30 career points (6g/18a) moves her to 18^th all-time in program history.
Kardelis' third assist of the season was also her third assist and third point of her career.
Three Huskies – redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio), junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.) – played a full 90 minutes in the game.

UP NEXT

SCSU will return home for its next two contests, facing Bemidji State on Friday, Oct. 10 and Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, Oct. 12.
