St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Drops Tight Contest to Bemidji State

Quam scores in the first half for the Huskies
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (6-1-3, 4-1-2 NSIC) dropped its first game of the season, a 2-1 setback to Bemidji State (6-2-2, 4-1-2 NSIC) on Friday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. Each team scored a goal in the first half, but Bemidji State was able to successfully execute a corner kick in the second period for the difference.
TURNING POINT
After Bemidji State scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 15th minute, SCSU scored in the 35th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) hammered home a goal from just outside the box off an assist from sophomore midfielder Jordan Kardelis (Musekgo, Wis.).
The game was evenly played for the rest of the contest, with both teams controlling play and having chances to score with Bemidji State being the one to pull through and find the back of the net in the 74th minute on a corner kick.
TOP HUSKIES
SCSU will return home for its next two contests, facing Bemidji State on Friday, Oct. 10 and Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, Oct. 12.

- Three Huskies – redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio), junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.) – played a full 90 minutes in the game.
