No. 11 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Swept by No. 2 Ohio State in First WCHA Road Series

Huskies fall 4-2 in series finale
COLUMBUS, Ohio. – No. 2 Ohio State scored four straight third period goals en route to a 4-2 win to earn the series sweep over No. 11 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (4-6-0, 1-5-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) on Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink in Columbus, Ohio.
The Huskies jumped out to its first lead of the series halfway through the first period when freshman defender Maélie Pion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) intercepted a deflected OSU pass and scored a wrister while skating through the high slot. SCSU held its one goal lead through the second period and into the second, before extending it to 2-0 1:54 into the third period after going the length of the rink. Graduate defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.) passed it to junior forward Sidney Jackel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) in the neutral zone who passed it to freshman forward Julianne Labbé (Wendake, Quebec) who had just skated through the final two Buckeye defenders and beat the goaltender one-on-one.

The Huskies return to St. Cloud next weekend with a series against No. 4/5 Minnesota Duluth (1-2-3, 1-2-3 WCHA). Ohio State (7-1-0, 5-1-0 WCHA) scored its first goal of the game 8:10 into the third period to cut the Huskies lead in half. SCSU was called for a major penalty 1:12 later and the Buckeyes added a pair of goals during the five-minute penalty before adding its fourth straight goal of the game with just under 40 seconds left in the game.

- Pion and Labbé scored goals for the Huskies. Pion was +2.
- Jackel and Wolfe earned assists on Labbé's goal. Wolfe also blocked three shots and was +2.
- Graduate goaltender Jojo Chobak (Chicago, Ill.) made 40 saves and only allowed two even strength goals.
- SCSU moved to 32-66-12 all-time against Ohio State and 15-31-8 all-time against the Buckeyes in Columbus.
- The Huskies moved to 2-6-0 this season against teams ranked/receiving votes and 1-4-0 in away games.
- SCSU went 4-for-6 on the penalty kill and 0-for-3 on the power play. For the season, SCSU is 24-for-33 (72.7%) on the penalty kill and 4-for-29 on the power play (13.8%).
- OSU outshot the Huskies, 44-15 and won 59.6% of the faceoffs and SCSU out blocked the Buckeyes, 12-9.
- The Huskies blocked 12+ shots for the fourth time this season.
- Pion's goal was the first of her career and her +2 mark tied her career best +/-.
- Labbé scored her fourth goal of the season which is tied for second most on the team.
- Wolfe's assist was her sixth of the season and her seventh point, both of which are tied for the most on the team. She blocked 3+ shots for the second time this season.
- Jackel tallied her fifth point of the season.
- Chobak's 40 saves were a new season high.
- Freshman forwards Raili Mustonen (Kalajoki, Finland) and Reese Strauts (Brandon, Wis.) skated to a career best +1 mark.
