Huskies tabbed as top team receiving votes
Kansas City, MO. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball come in as receiving votes in the first National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll as announced Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies were listed as the top team to receive votes with 52 points and nearly cracked the top 25 with Lubbock Christian ranking slightly ahead at No. 25 with 56 points.
SCSU was one of six Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) teams in the inaugural NABC Poll as Southwest Minnesota State was ranked No. 9 while MSU Moorhead (37 points), Minnesota Duluth (25 points), Minnesota State (22 points), and Concordia-St. Paul (12 points) were all receiving votes. The Huskies came into this season projected to finish second in the NSIC as they trailed only SMSU.
St. Cloud State aims to carry over their late season momentum from a year ago as they return four of their five starters from last season in Luke Winkel, Nate Dahl, Kynan Philippe, and Wyatt Hawks. Winkel and Dahl both earned All-NSIC Honors a year ago. The Huskies took a leap forward a season ago as they finished with a 20-12 record and a 15-7 mark in conference play to place third in the NSIC.
St. Cloud State will open their season on Friday, November 14 as they take on Northwest Missouri State in the Hillyard Tipoff Classic.
