
St. Cloud State Athletics Mourns the Loss of Hall of Famer Gene Schneider

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Athletics is mourning the loss of Hall of Fame inductee Eugene (Gene) Schneider, who passed away in early September at the age of 95 in his home in Eden Prairie, Minn. Schneider played basketball for the Huskies from 1948-53 and was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 1995.
Schneider graduated from SCSU in 1953 with a degree in physical education. He was selected to the all-Northern Intercollegiate Conference (NIC) team in 1951 and 1952.
After graduation, Gene coached basketball at Fort Wood, Missouri while in the armed forces. Gene chose to pursue a career in business and established his own manufacturer's agency, representing twenty-three companies across the country. He was the co-owner of Cholestest, a company that provided wellness programs to Minnesota corporations. His company was cited as the #1 Manufacturer's Agency in the U.S. In 1980, he was awarded the Outstanding Salesman award by General Electric. An active community member, he has coached baseball, basketball, and hockey for several Hopkins programs. He was active as president of the Hopkins Junior Chamber of Commerce and received the Outstanding President and Outstanding Member awards in 1957-58.
