Huskies drop series finale against St. Thomas, 2-1
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. – Despite outshooting (RV) St. Thomas, 33-8, No. 11/10 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (13-10-5, 8-10-4 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) dropped its series finale against the Tommies, 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Saint Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.
After 35 minutes of scoreless play, St. Thomas (8-18-2, 5-16-1) found the back of the net first and took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission. Through the first two periods, SCSU held a 19-5 shots on goal advantage, but were unable to convert.
The Huskies finally made their breakthrough when sophomore forward Sofianna Sundelin (Ulvila, Finland) netted her third goal of the weekend with just over seven minutes left in the third period, tying the game at one. Neither team scored in the remainder of regulation, forcing the game into overtime. Thirty-six seconds into the three-on-three overtime period, UST found the back of the net to take the game, 2-1.

The Huskies travel to Mankato next weekend for its second to last road series of the regular season. - Sundelin scored the Huskies lone goal and won a team-high 15 faceoffs, earning the game's second star.
- Senior defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn) provided the lone assist on Sundelin's goal and tied for the team lead in blocks (two).
- Sophomore forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) recorded a game-high 10 shots on goal.
- SCSU moves to 11-4-2 all-time against St. Thomas including a 4-3-2 mark against the Tommies in Mendota Heights. The Huskies finished the regular season series 2-1-1 against UST.
- SCSU led the game in shots (33-8), while the Tommies led in faceoff wins (37-33), saves (32-6) and blocked shots (17-9).
- Both teams went 0-for-2 on the powerplay. The Huskies stopped a three-game streak of conceding a power play goal.
- The Huskies recorded 33 shots on goal for the second straight game and eighth time this season. The Huskies are now 6-1-1 when they record 33+ shots.
- Sundelin scored her third goal of the weekend and eighth of the season to take sole possession of the team lead for goals.
- Wolfe tallied her sixth assist of the season which is tied for fifth on the team.
- Sauriol's 10 shots were a new career high.
- Fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) is now on the program's top 10 list for career games played after skating in her 144th career game for the Huskies.
- Fifth year forward Brieja Parent (Forest Lake, Minn.) skated in her 125th career game.
- Junior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) skated in her 100th career game.
