
St. Cloud State Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Wayne State

Huskies allow 19 runs in setbacks to Wayne State
GAME 1 – WSC 8, SCSU 7
Wayne State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and the Huskies were chasing from that point on. An RBI single from senior Blaine Guthrie (Emerald, Wis.) in the bottom of the first made the score 3-1 and a sacrifice fly from junior Wyatt Tweet (Russell, Manitoba) in the bottom of the second inning made the score 4-2.
After the Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, SCSU responded with four runs of their own to cut the deficit back to two runs at 8-6. redshirt junior Eric Bello (Manati, Puerto Rico) had a solo home run in the inning to begin the rally. SCSU scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the deficit to one run, but couldn't get the tying run home to end the game.

- Bello hit his third home run and 21st RBI of the season in the fourth inning.
- Bello went 2-for-4 at the plate for his seventh multi-hit game of the season.
- Kim recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
- Kahle pitched three scoreless innings to extend his scoreless inning streak to six innings. The three innings was also his longest outing of the season.
- Redshirt junior Liam Moreno (Sun Prairie, Wis.) hit his team-leading 13th double of the season.
SCSU grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning after capitalizing on three errors from Wayne State, but then the Wildcats responded by scoring the next nine runs to take control of the game. SCSU was able to cut the deficit to 10-6 in the seventh inning, but they couldn't get any closer, falling 11-6.

- Castro went 2-for-5 at the plate for his 14th multi-hit game of the season while hitting his 12th double.
- Kim recorded his eighth multi-hit game of the season.
- Doolitte's 1.2 innings pitched was his longest outing of the season while lowering his ERA to 3.60.
SCSU and Wayne State will close its series on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. CT at Joe Faber Field.
