All-time winningest coach in program history has led Huskies to 10 NCAA Tournaments
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Athletics Director of Athletics Holly Schreiner has extended the contract of baseball head coach Pat Dolan four years, extending him through the 2028-29 season, as announced on June 13. Dolan, the all-time winningest coach in program history, has led the Huskies to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and six conference championships in 18 seasons at the helm of SCSU Baseball.
"Coach Dolan has done an outstanding job in advancing our baseball program," said Schreiner. "He has a tireless work ethic and is dedicated to building a program that is nationally competitive. We are excited to see the accomplishments our Huskies will achieve over the next four seasons and beyond."
"When I was hired, I said this was my dream job and retirement job," said Dolan. "The past 18 years have gone by fast! I'm extremely proud of our program's accomplishments on and off the field and in the classroom. And I don't plan on retiring anytime soon, as I love St. Cloud State University and our Huskies Baseball program! I'd like to thank Holly Schreiner for extending my contract and believing in my ongoing vision of our program!"
St. Cloud State Baseball has evolved into a national power under Dolan's leadership, appearing in 10 NCAA Regional Tournaments (2010-13, 2015-19, 2023) with four region runner-up finishes (2010, 2012, 2013, 2015). The Huskies earned NSIC Regular Season Championships in 2013 and 2015 along with NSIC Tournament Championships in 2011, 2015, 2016 and 2023. SCSU has been routinely ranked in the NCBWA's Top-25 under Dolan including No. 1 reigns in 2015 and 2016. Dolan was named the NCBWA DII National Coach of the Year in 2015, the Central Region Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2016 and the NSIC Coach of the Year in 2015.
Over 18 seasons spanning the Dolan era, 75 Huskies have earned All-Conference honors, 51 have gained All-Region status and 21 All-Americans have been crowned. Jordan Smith (2011), Michael Jurgella (2015) and Sam Riola (2022) each were named both NSIC and Central Region Player of the Year while Reese Gregory (2015) and Sheldon Miks (2016) each were honored as NSIC and Central Region Pitcher of the Year under Dolan. Gregory became the Huskies' first-ever National Pitcher of the Year in 2015.
Excellence in the classroom is a staple of the Pat Dolan era at St. Cloud State, with 147 Huskies earning Academic All-Conference honors in addition to 20 Academic All-District recipients. Six Huskies have earned Academic All-American status under Dolan's leadership, including Mike Jurgella who was named the 2015 CoSIDA DII Academic All-American of the Year. SCSU finished the 2024-25 academic year with its 16th consecutive season with a team GPA of 3.0+ and continued to support the central Minnesota community by working with the Miracle League and Special Olympics.
In 2025, the Huskies went 28-26 and finished fifth in the NSIC standing, marking the 15th consecutive season the Huskies have finished in the top-five in the NSIC and 16th time in 17 seasons under Dolan (no conference season in 2020 due to pandemic). Four Huskies earned All-NSIC honors, including senior captain Ethan Navratil who earned first team honors and finished his SCSU career among the program's top-10 in numerous offensive categories, including home runs, RBI, extra-base hits and games played. The Huskies relied on the long ball all season long, launching 67 home runs, a mark which ranked second as a team in program history and only trailed the 96 hit in 2016.
"It was an interesting, unique and fun season with a great group of Huskies," said Dolan. "Starting the season off with some extremely competitive series' against nationally ranked teams and then finishing the season playing some of our best baseball in the tourney, but like every team we did have some highs and lows throughout the season. It was challenging losing a large group of seniors and two of our top players who moved up to Division-I from 2024. The transfer portal has definitely changed rosters upside down. To still be near 30 wins was an accomplishment for our program and I'm really proud of how our guys competed and adjusted adapted to the adversity and especially the last few weeks of the season."
"I'm already excited and energized to get fall ball started with a great group of returners, a solid group of redshirts and one of the best recruiting classes we've had in 20 years," said Dolan. "We are also putting together an unbelievable coaching staff that we will have finalized in the next few weeks. We would like to congratulate SJ Mousseau, our graduate assistant coach on getting a full-time position and a special thanks to Rob Swendra for his 13 years of service to our Huskies baseball program. Aaron Turner will be elevated to our pitching coach with recent SMSU graduate Ryan Chmielewski joining as a graduate assistant pitching coach and Rob Moone back as our bench coach. And stay tuned in the next couple weeks for our final additions to our coaching staff."
