No. 13 St. Cloud State Wrestling Gears up for Duals Against RV Minnesota State and RV Northern State

Huskies look to stay perfect in NSIC
St. Cloud, MN. – No. 13 St. Cloud State Wrestling (14-2, 7-0 NSIC) wrestle their final home dual of the season this weekend as they take on RV Minnesota State on Friday, February 6. They will then wrestle in the Don Parker Open on Saturday, February 7 before traveling to RV Northern State on Sunday, February 8. Friday's dual will start at 7:00 p.m. while Sunday's dual begins at 12:00 p.m.

Friday's dual will be senior day for the Huskies where they will honor Ben Aranda, Alyeus Craig, Bryce Dagel, Zach Glazier, Archer Heelan, Vito Massa, Tyson Meyer, Jadon Mims, and Logan Vaughan prior to the match.

Costanzo Captures 300th Win at SCSU in No. 13 Huskies 21-14 Win over No. 11 Augustana- January 31, 2026
The dual began at 285 where Zach Glazier came away with five takedowns and four back points to win by tech fall. Moving back up to 125, Ben Aranda produced a 5-0 shutout victory with a first period takedown. He added on an escape point and riding time with 1:51 accumulated.
With an 8-0 lead, three takedowns propelled Dominic Ducato to a 10-1 major decision with one coming with seconds remaining in the match to secure the bonus point win.
Augustana would take the next two matches as No. 15 Luke Koenen beta Jayce Luna and No. 6 Nolan Ambrose came away with a tech fall over Rowdy Neighbor.
Now leading 12-8, No. 2 Joel Jesuroga took to the mat against reining National Champion (149) Cael Larson. In what was a hard fought match, the two wrestlers each tallied an escape as the match was tied 1-1 early in period three. With 40 seconds remaining, Jesuroga went deep on a single leg. Larson was near the edge of the mat, but Jesuroga was able to pull him back to keep him in bounds. He then lifted Larson's leg up and sweeped the other down to score the takedown. Larson would escape, but Jesuroga ultimately came away with a 4-2 victory.
Gabriel Smith would follow at 165 where his match against Payton Handevidt went into overtime tied 1-1. Handevidt would secure Smith's leg, but Smith fought into a scramble situation where he secured an ankle. Smith held firm on the ankle and worked his way into a position where he could finish off the takedown. He ultimately won 4-1 as the Huskies led 18-8.
Moving to 174 pounds, No. 11 Bryce Dagel took on No. 5 Coy Gunderson. Like the previous bout, the match would go into overtime tied 1-1. Dagel nearly came away with a late takedown in the third after he evaded an attack by Gunderson and countered with a lift that took Gunderson down, but he was out of bounds. Overtime saw Gunderson shoot on a double leg attack and secure the takedown to beat Dagel 4-1.
No. 2 Cole Glazier secured the dual victory for the Huskies with a 1-0 win over Charlie Petit. To close out the match, Tyson Meyer battled against No. 1 Max Ramberg, but a late takedown in the third secured the 4-1 win for Ramberg. St. Cloud State would ultimately win 21-14 for their six straight win.

157 Pounds- No. 2 Joel Jesuroga (14-0, 9-0 vs NSIC, 3-0 vs ranked), eight bonus point wins (six major decisions, two tech falls)
165 Pounds- No. 14 Derek Johnson (8-1, 4-0 vs NSIC, 1-1 vs ranked), five bonus point wins (five major decisions)
174 Pounds- No. 11 Bryce Dagel (9-3, 5-1 vs NSIC, 1-3 vs ranked), six bonus point wins (two major decision, one tech fall, three falls)
184 Pounds- No. 2 Cole Glazier (13-0, 7-0 vs NSIC, 1-0 vs ranked), eight bonus point wins (two major decision, four tech falls, two falls)
300 Rise of an Empire
With the Huskies win over Augustana this past weekend, Head Coach Steve Costanzo reached 300 career wins at St. Cloud State. The program's all-time winningest coach holds a record of 300-33 during his 20 years at SCSU. Costanzo is 133-11 in conference duals during his tenure.
Series History
Friday's dual against Minnesota State will be the 54th dual between the programs with SCSU trailing 25-26-2 in the series. St. Cloud State has won 17 straight duals over the Mavericks including their meeting in the NWCA National Duals.
No. 13 Huskies Go 2-1 on Day One of NWCA National Duals- January 9, 2026
St. Cloud State would fall into another early hole after dropping three of the first four matches. Jayce Luna put up a clean 12-0 shutout to give the Huskies their first points of the dual.
Trailing 11-4, Joel Jesuroga provided a major spark against No. 13 Caleb Meunier. With each wrestler scoring an escape point, the match headed into sudden victory tied 1-1. Early into overtime, Meunier landed a single leg swipe on Jesuroga, but he was unable to score the takedown as Jesuroga scrapped and fought his way out of the disadvantageous situation. The Pleasant Hill, Iowa native evaded more shots from Meunier before he countered on a single leg attack of his own. Jesuroga brought Meunier down and crossed over his legs onto his. Jesuroga held firm before the takedown was ultimately called for the 4-1 victory.
Following him was Derek Johnson who took on No. 15 Paolo Salminen. Johnson scored an early takedown before he came away with four near fall points at the end of the first period. Leading 7-0, Johnson added an escape point in the third period and partnered it with a riding time point leading to a 9-0 shutout over the 15th ranked wrestler.
With the match tied at 11, Bryce Dagel faced No. 13 Drake Hayward in what was a rematch of last years third place match at the NCAA Championships. Dagel came out hot with an early takedown and would lead 4-2 headed into the third period. Hayward scored an escape to start the period to bring him within one point. Dagel sealed the deal with a counter off a Hayward attack where he held an over hook. Hayward mistakenly tried to roll out, but Dagel jumped on the opportunity and snatched his legs to get the takedown. Dagel avenged himself from last year with the 7-2 win to give the Huskies their first lead of the dual.
St. Cloud State sealed their victory in the dual with back-to-back tech falls from Cole Glazier and Tyson Meyer as they ultimately went on to win 24-14.

No. 1 Huskies Cruise to 28-6 Victory Against RV Northern State- February 8, 2025
The dual kicked off at 125 where Conor Knopick came away with an 11-5 victory to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. At 133, No. 8 Sam Spencer worked his way to an 18-2 tech fall as St. Cloud State burst out of the gates with an 8-0 lead.
The Wolves put their first points on the board as No. 12 Braydon Mogle beat No. 13 Alyeus Craig 5-0.
Moving to 149, No. 13 Colby Njos wrestled against No. 4 Wyatt Turnquist. The first two periods would go scoreless as Turnquist had choice in the third period. He would choose down as Njos went on top. Njos would have an incredible ride as he stayed on top the entire period ultimately leading to a 1-0 victory.
No. 1 Joel Jesuroga stayed undefeated on the year as a clutch takedown in the third period ultimately propelled him to a 4-2 victory. St. Cloud State then came up with back-to-back major decisions as No. 3 Nick Novak and No. 2 Bryce Dagel set the score at 22-3.
No. 9 Bryce FitzPatrick added to the lead with a 9-3 decision. Like Jesuroga, No. 2 Dominic Murphy also came up with a clutch third period takedown leading to a 4-2 victory to stay unbeaten.
Northern State earned the last points of the match with a decision win at 285, but it would not matter as the Huskies stayed perfect on the year with a 28-6 victory.

The Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks come into this dual holding a 14-3 record with a 7-1 mark in the NSIC. They are currently receiving votes in the NWCA Poll with notable wins against Wisconsin-Parkside, Ashland, Grand Valley State, and UMary. The Mavericks are coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 8-5 and placed fifth at Super Region V. They qualified three for the NCAA Tournament and produced two All-Americans in Drake Hayward and Caleb Meunier. MSU came into this season ranked 12th in the NWCA Poll and projected to finish fifth in the NSIC.
The Mavericks currently hold three ranked wrestlers in Walker Bents (No. 13, 149), Caleb Meunier (No. 8, 157), and Drake Hayward (No. 13, 174). Bents was a national qualifier last year while Meunier (fifth) and Hayward (third) were both All-Americans.
Head Coach Jim Makovsky enters his 33rd season with Minnesota State in the 2025-26 season. He holds a 475-316 record in his tenure and has coached 12 National Champions and 99 All-Americans.
Scouting Northern State
The Northern State Wolves come into his dual holding a 6-4 record with a 3-4 mark in the NSIC. They are receiving votes in the NWCA Poll. There three conference wins have come against MSU Moorhead, Sioux Falls, and Southwest Minnesota State. The Wolves are coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 7-3 and placed eighth at Super Region V. They did not qualify any wrestlers to the NCAA Tournament. NSU came into this season receiving votes in the NWCA Poll and projected to finish sixth in the NSIC.
The Wolves currently hold two ranked wrestlers in Rudy Lopez (No. 14, 149) and Brady Westall (No. 11, 184).
Head Coach Josh Nolan enters his first season at Northern State in 2025-26. Nolan was an assistant coach at Northern State last season.
Northern State will wrestle Minot State on Friday before facing the Huskies on Sunday.
