No. 1 Joel Jesuroga had a strong day on Friday where a pair of major decisions secured him a spot in the semifinals along with All-American Honors. Two takedowns propped the Pleasant Hill, Iowa native in his first match of the day as he shutout Thomas Nichols 8-0. Jesuroga stayed up on his feet the entire day as he would not be taken down in either match. Against Kaden Renner in the quarterfinals, a trio of takedowns along with riding time gave him an 11-2 victory as he moved on to the semifinals while earning All-American Honors. This was the first All-American recognition for Jesuroga in his career.
On day two, Jesuroga picked up where he left off from the day prior as a first period takedown and third period escape led to a 4-3 win against No. 5 Aaden Valdez of Adams State. That win sent the redshirt sophomore to the championship match.
The top two seeds at 157 clashed in the National Championship match as No. 1 Joel Jesuroga took on No. 2 Gabe Johnson of Central Oklahoma for their second meeting of the season. No scoring occurred in the first period, but Jesuroga fired off some shots that nearly connected, but were defended nicely by Johnson. Taking the down position to start period two, Jesuroga came up with an early escape to lead 1-0. The wrestlers continued to battle as again neither wrestler could score a takedown. Moving into the third period, Johnson chose down and came away with an escape to tie the match at 1-1. The tie held true for the rest of the period as the match went into overtime. The first minute of overtime was reminiscent of the first three periods as neither wrestler could put the other to the mat. Near the center of the mat, Jesuroga fired a swipe at Johnson's right leg that had missed. Johnson ceased the opportunity with a counter to grab hold of Jesuroga and then worked his way to a takedown to beat him 4-1 in sudden victory. Gabe Johnson would repeat as National Champion.

This was the third time that Novak has earned All-American recognition and is the 22nd Husky to capture 3+ All-American Honors.
In the semifinals on day two, Novak matched up against the reigning National Champion in David Hunsberger. Through the first two periods, the lone point in the match would be an escape point for Novak. He then had an opportunity at a takedown as he forced Hunsberger to the edge of the mat and wrapped around to his legs but was out of bounds when he controlled the position. From that point, Hunsberger held on for the 4-2 win as Novak was sent to the consolation semifinals.
In the consolation semifinals, Novak matched up against No. 8 Corey Peterson.
