No. 5 Huskies Place Sixth at NCAA Championships, Tally Five All-Americans

Joel Jesuroga is National Runner-Up
Sioux Falls, S.D. – No. 5 St. Cloud State Wrestling finished sixth at the NCAA Championships with 61.0 team points. Five Huskies went on to earn All-American Honors while Joel Jesuroga was the National Runner-Up.
125- Ben Aranda does not place
In his first match of the day on Friday, Ben Aranda opened with Ricky Springs of Newberry in preliminary round 1. With each wrestler scoring a takedown and escape, a 4-4 tie would be held after the first period. Springs would add an escape to start period two after Aranda started on top. A late scramble at the end of the period saw Aranda capitalize with a takedown as he led 7-5 going into the third. Springs would escape to start the third and then proceed to takedown Aranda and then score three near-fall points as he ultimately went on to 12-7.
In the consolation preliminary round, Aranda would face-off against No. 5 Eli Kirk of Central Oklahoma. Aranda would trail 11-1 before being pinned as his season ended. He finishes with a 12-10 record and 10 bonus point wins.

133- No. 10 Dominic Ducato Earns All-American Honors, Places 4th
To start his day on Friday, Dominic Ducato battled against the top seed in Tanner Halling of Frostburg State. No scoring occurred in the first period, but Ducato would evade attacks by Halling to keep zero's on the board. Halling took bottom to start the second where he tallied an escape. The two would go into collar ties before Ducato dropped his leverage and snatched a leg of Halling which then led to a takedown. Halling would ultimately escape as the score was set at 3-2 headed into the third. Ducato added another point with an escape at the beginning of period three to take a 4-2 lead. The match stayed neutral the rest of the way as the redshirt-sophomore continued to block shots from the top seed. Halling would pick up a stall point, but Ducato held on to upset the top ranked wrestler at 133 4-3.
Moving to the quarterfinals, Ducato would match up against No. 8 Jacob Meyers of CSU Pueblo. After a scoreless first period, the redshirt sophomore would take bottom in the second given his choice. 10 seconds into the period, Ducato would start to build his base and rise to his feet as he held both of Meyers arms on overhooks. He then carried his momentum over as he went on top with a key reversal for two points. Ducato rode out Meyers the rest of the second and then ultimately for the entirety of the third with a series of mat returns. The Carpentersville, Illinois native would go on to win 3-0 with a riding time point and head to the semifinals while securing All-American Honors.
On day two, Ducato would face off against No. 5 James Joplin of Lander. He would fall behind 6-2 after being taken down twice in the first period. Starting on bottom to start the second period, the redshirt sophomore would escape and then score a late takedown. Joplin would escape as he led 7-6 at the end of the second. Ducato was unable to score the takedown needed for the victory after starting on top. He would lose 8-6 in a hard fought battle.
Now in the consolation bracket, Ducato would once again matchup with No. 1 Tanner Halling of Frostburg State. After giving up a penalty point, Ducato come away with an ankle pick to put himself in an advantageous situation. He would ultimately work his way to a takedown which propelled him to a 4-2 decision win and send him to the third-place match.
In his final match of the season, Ducato would wrestle against No. 3 Jason Henschel of Central Oklahoma. He would lose 5-0 and finish fourth.
The redshirt sophomore finished the season with a 17-3 record with nine bonus point wins. He notched his first All-American Honors to go with being a Super Region V Champion and earning First Team All-NSIC.

157- No. 2 Joel Jesuroga is National Runner-Up, Earns All-American Honors
To start his tournament run, No. 2 Joel Jesuroga scored a pair of takedowns to beat Nicolas Zamora of Maryville 7-3 in round 1. His first takedown knee slide into an ankle pick to snag Zamora's foot. He then worked his way to three points after chopping Zamora's other leg. The second takedown saw the two interlocked in hooks near the edge of the mat. Jesuroga swung his right leg onto Zamora's to bring him down.
Coming out hot in his quarterfinal bout, Jesuroga scored two takedowns in the first period against No. 7 Hayden Hunh of Gannon. He would tack on an escape and riding time point as he secured All-American Honors for the second straight season with an 8-3 decision.
In the semifinals, Jesuroga faced off against No. 3 Aaden Valdez of Adams State. The score would be tied 1-1 early in the third after each wrestler tallied an escape. With 1:16 remaining, Jesuroga went down on a knee slide into a single leg attack. He held firm on that leg as Valdez kicked out to try and escape. Nearing the edge of the mat, The Pleasant Hill, Iowa native tugged Valdez back in bounds and dropped down to complete the takedown. Valdez would escape, but Jesuroga stayed on his feet as he returned to the Championship match with a 4-3 decision.
In a rematch of last year's National Championship, No. 2 Joel Jesuroga faced off against No. 1 Gabe Johnson of Central Oklahoma. Similar to last year, period one went scoreless and then each wrestler tallied an early escape when they started on bottom. With a 1-1 score after Johnson's escape in period three, the two stayed interlocked as the match went into overtime which followed suit to last year. A scoreless OT period saw the match head into tiebreakers where Jesuroga would start on bottom. He escaped in 18 seconds as the remaining 12 seconds went neutral and were scoreless. Jesuroga went top as Johnson would escape in six seconds. Jesuroga would force a stall call but would be unable to get a takedown as he would lose in tiebreakers.
He finishes the season 24-1 with 10 bonus point wins. Jesuroga would earn National Runner-Up for the second straight season to go with a title at Super Region V and First Team All-NSIC. He became the 13th Husky to reach multiple championship matches in his career.

174- No. 9 Bryce Dagel Earns All-American Honors, Places 3rd
No. 9 Bryce Dagel's first match of the day would come against No. 1 Hunter Jump of Central Oklahoma. Dagel struck first with a takedown following a scramble situation. Jump would instantly escape and then added another escape to start period two as Dagel led 3-2 going into the third. Jump notched an early takedown to start the period and rode out Dagel as he ultimately went on to win 6-3.
Moving into the wrestlebacks, Dagel opened with No. 8 Sevi Garza of Ashland. Dagel scored the match's only takedown after blocking a shot attempt by Garza. He then wrapped around and came away with control for three. Dagel ultimately went on to shutout Garza with a 5-0 decision.
With All-American Honors on the line in Consolation Round 2, Dagel faced off against Jakob Smith of Colorado School of Mines. Controlling the pace early, the Eden Prairie native two stall calls in the first two periods as an added escape set the score at 2-0 entering the third. Smith would escape to start the third to get within a point. Smith would get called for another stall call to give Dagel one more point before he sealed the match with a late takedown to win 6-1 and earn All-American Honors. This is the second straight season that Bryce Dagel has been named an All-American.
To start his day on Saturday, Dagel opened with Drake Hayward of Minnesota State where a takedown with 1:23 left in the third propelled him to a 4-3 decision.
Continuing to ride his momentum of the week, the redshirt senior matched up against Maxwell Kiel of Lander. A single leg takedown would be enough to send him to the third-place match with a 5-2 decision.
In the third-place match, Dagel took on No. 7 Ty Morrison of Pitt. Johnstown. Two takedowns, a reversal, and riding time secured bronze as he beat Morrison 9-4.
Dagel ends the season with 19-6 record and 10 bonus point wins. This was his second All-American Honor of his career and highest finish.

On day one, top ranked Cole Glazier cruised to an 11-2 win in his opening bout. He scored three-takedowns, an escape, and a riding time point to be beat No. 9 Luke Ciampa.
In his quarterfinal bout, Glazier faced off against a familiar opponent in Sullivan Ramos of Wisconsin-Parkside. After tallying a takedown and escape, Glazier would lead 4-0 headed into the third. In the final frame, the Kasson, Minnesota native would get called for four stall calls which led to two points for Ramos. As time ticked away, Ramos would score a takedown and then push Glazier to his back for four swipes as he ultimately went on to beat Glazier 9-5.
In Consolation Round 2, the redshirt sophomore matched up with another familiar opponent in No. 10 Charlie Petit of Augustana. Two third period takedowns would secure a 7-1 win. This is the second time that Glazier has earned All-American Honors.
On day two, Glazier would battle against No. 5 Kaden Hart of Nebraska-Kearney. He would trail 4-1 going into the third. Glazier applied pressure and forced a stall penalty to set the score at 4-2. He neared a takedown as time ticked away, but was unable to score as he moved to the seventh-place match.
In his final match of the week, Glazier would take on No. 7 Patrick Jackson of Gannon. A clean sheet of 6-0 where Glazier scored a takedown, reversal, and riding time point.
He finishes the season with a 23-2 record and 11 bonus point wins. This was his second All-American Honors in his career and was his highest finish. He also added a title at Super Region V and First Team All-NSIC.

In his opening bout in preliminary round, Tyson Meyer would be defeated 12-5 in overtime.
He bounced back with a 5-2 decision against a familiar foe in Jordan Blanchard of Wisconsin-Parkside. Off a collar-tie, Meyer would overpower Blanchard as he had positioning to score the match's only takedown.
In Consolation Round 1, Meyer would match up with No. 3 Peyton Lemon of Ashland. Lemon looked like he would score a takedown with a single leg attack. As he drove down, Meyer would roll through and land on top as he scored the takedown. Two third period takedowns would seal an 11-2 major decision.
Meyer then matched up with No. 4 Jackson Kinsella of Nebraska-Kearney in consolation round 2. In a hard fought battle that went into OT tied 1-1, Kinsella would score a takedown to beat Meyer 4-1.
He finishes the season with a 17-7 record and 11 bonus point wins while earning Second Team All-NSIC.

No. 3 Zach Glazier got his day started on Friday with a 17-2 tech fall over BK Seago. Glazier compiled five takedowns throughout the match.
In his quarterfinal bout, Glazier matched up with last year's National Runner-Up No. 6 Isaiah Vance of Pitt. Johnstown. The sixth year senior struck first with a single leg takedown of Vance. He rode him out for the remainder of the period and then the entirety of the second period after starting on top. Glazier escape to start the third period and then stayed on his feet the rest of the match for the 5-0 win. He added on a riding time point as he earned All-American Honors for the first time in his career.
In the semifinals, Glazier would take on No. 2 Crew Howard of Nebraska-Kearney. Howard would shutout Glazier with a 5-0 decision as a takedown with 11 seconds remaining sealed the match.
Now in the consolation bracket, Glazier shutout No. 5 Freddie Retter with a 4-0 decision powered by a first period takedown.
Moving now to the third-place match, Glazier faced off against No. 4 Carter Blough of Grand Valley State. He rattled off a 10-4 decision in part to two takedowns, a reversal, an escape, and riding time to place third.
Glazier ends the season with an 11-1 record with six bonus point wins. This was the first All-American Honor of his career to go with a title at Super Region V and First Team All-NSIC.

197- Tyson Meyer does not place
In his opening bout in preliminary round, Tyson Meyer would be defeated 12-5 in overtime.
He bounced back with a 5-2 decision against a familiar foe in Jordan Blanchard of Wisconsin-Parkside. Off a collar-tie, Meyer would overpower Blanchard as he had positioning to score the match's only takedown.
In Consolation Round 1, Meyer would match up with No. 3 Peyton Lemon of Ashland. Lemon looked like he would score a takedown with a single leg attack. As he drove down, Meyer would roll through and land on top as he scored the takedown. Two third period takedowns would seal an 11-2 major decision.
Meyer then matched up with No. 4 Jackson Kinsella of Nebraska-Kearney in consolation round 2. In a hard fought battle that went into OT tied 1-1, Kinsella would score a takedown to beat Meyer 4-1.
He finishes the season with a 17-7 record and 11 bonus point wins while earning Second Team All-NSIC.

285- No. 3 Zach Glazier Earns All-American Honors, Places 3rd
No. 3 Zach Glazier got his day started on Friday with a 17-2 tech fall over BK Seago. Glazier compiled five takedowns throughout the match.
In his quarterfinal bout, Glazier matched up with last year's National Runner-Up No. 6 Isaiah Vance of Pitt. Johnstown. The sixth year senior struck first with a single leg takedown of Vance. He rode him out for the remainder of the period and then the entirety of the second period after starting on top. Glazier escape to start the third period and then stayed on his feet the rest of the match for the 5-0 win. He added on a riding time point as he earned All-American Honors for the first time in his career.
In the semifinals, Glazier would take on No. 2 Crew Howard of Nebraska-Kearney. Howard would shutout Glazier with a 5-0 decision as a takedown with 11 seconds remaining sealed the match.
Now in the consolation bracket, Glazier shutout No. 5 Freddie Retter with a 4-0 decision powered by a first period takedown.
Moving now to the third-place match, Glazier faced off against No. 4 Carter Blough of Grand Valley State. He rattled off a 10-4 decision in part to two takedowns, a reversal, an escape, and riding time to place third.
Glazier ends the season with an 11-1 record with six bonus point wins. This was the first All-American Honor of his career to go with a title at Super Region V and First Team All-NSIC.
