Tanner Pruett

Tanner Pruett begins his first season as St. Cloud State’s pitching coach after joining the staff in January of 2021. He holds a B.S. in Exercise Science from Crown College and is a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the ACSM.
Originally from Newman, California, Pruett attended Orestimba High School where he was a four-year member of the varsity baseball team. He began his collegiate playing career at Modesto College, working 4.2 scoreless innings during his freshman campaign. The lefthander transferred to Crown College, where he finished out his career as one of the Storm’s top weekend arms. As a junior, Pruett went 3-6 across 11 starts and 61.1 innings, positing a 4.71 FIP while striking out 47 and holding hitters to a .228 average and a .645 OPS. Pruett won seven games and tossed four complete games over his time at Crown, making 34 appearances and 25 starts while working 129.2 innings and punching out 124 batters.
Following his collegiate career, Pruett was drafted in the second round of the 2019 Frontier League Draft by the Evansville Otters, signing a professional contract and serving as a reliever.
Pruett has spent time as a pitching coach at both the high school and collegiate levels; and has worked as an assistant pitching coordinator and strength coach in the private sector.
Tanner’s great uncle Hubert Shelby “Shucks” Pruett spent a decade in Major League Baseball as a lefthanded pitcher for the St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants and Boston Braves. Hubert Pruett is notorious for experiencing great success against Babe Ruth, striking out the Great Bambino in 10 of his first 14 appearances against the Yankees legend before allowing a hit.
