Husky Volleyball Falls to Northern State, 0-3

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University volleyball team matched up against the Wolves of Northern State University this evening in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action. The two teams entered the contest tied for third place in the NSIC, both holding 6-3 conference records. The Wolves came out on top tonight as they took down St. Cloud State in three straight sets with scores of 16-25, 16-25 and 21-25.Â
St. Cloud State falls to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Even with the loss, the Huskies already have the most wins in SCSU volleyball history since the 2010 season when the Huskies finished the year 14-14 overall. Northern State improved to 14-3 overall and 7-3 in the NSIC.Â
As a team the Huskies posted a low .079 hitting percentage throughout the match, compared to Northern State's .369 hitting percentage.Â
Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led SCSU with 11 kills and a .348 attack percentage.Â
Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley) posted a double-double as she dished out 27 assists and collected 10 digs.Â
The Wolves defensive resilience made it difficult for the Husky hitters. Northern State collected 18 blocks; the Huskies totaling just two throughout the match.Â
Kelsey Chambers led all players for Northern State with 16 kills, hitting .621 in the three sets. Drew Smith collected 40 assists.Â
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they host MSU Moorhead at 4 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies will continue to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness, so be sure to wear wink to the match. Riddles Jewelry will be giving away a diamond ring in between the second and third set, so be sure to stop by to register to win.Â
MSU Moorhead enters the match-up with an 11-7 overall record and a 4-6 mark in the NSIC. The Dragons fell to Minnesota Duluth in three sets this evening.Â
