Husky Football Collects Record Setting 64-27 win over MSU Moorhead

St. Cloud State, ranked #7 in Super Region 3 and #13/#15 in the national polls improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the NSIC North. MSUM finishes the season 4-7 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC North. Ten wins ties the school record for wins in a season and marks the third 10-win season in school history and the second 10-win season since 2010. The Huskies are 6-0 at Husky Stadium this season.
The NCAA Division II playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday at 4 p.m. central time. The top six teams from each of the four regions will advance to the playoffs.
Senior quarterback Phillip Klaphake (Princeton), with his first pass attempt of the game, a 20-yard completion, went over the 10,000 career passing yard mark. He went on to set the single game record for passing yards with 512. He broke his own record of 466 yards set last season against Minnesota Duluth. He completed 30 of 43 passes attempts tied, for the third time, the single game touchdown pass record with five. He is the third quarterback in Division II history to pass for over 10,000 yards and rush for over 2,000 yards. Klaphake has 10,500 passing and 2,787 career rushing yards.
The Huskies also had a ground game, led by senior runningback Michael Walker (Walworth, Wis.). Walker rushed 23 times for a career high 173 yards and four touchdowns, also a personal career high. It marked his seventh career 100-yard rushing game.
Senior wide receiver Dan Brown (Robbinsdale) caught a team high seven passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore tight end Grant Thayer (Appleton, Wis) had an efficient day, making three catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
Junior defensive back Kyle Risinger (Excelsior) had a game high nine tackles and one interception, the first of his career.
St. Cloud State collected a school record 780 yards of total offense, gaining 512 in the air and 268 on the ground.
The win marked the 50th of head coach Scott Underwood's career at St. Cloud State.
MSU Moorhead gained 413 yards of total offense. Quarterback Jake Hodges completed 15 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns. Adam Jiskra caught both touchdown passes and finished the game with eight catches for 100 yards. Lomumba Ismail notched a team high eight tackles and collected one interception.
