Second Half Comeback Not Enough to Overcome Early Deficit over MSUM

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – A slow start plagued the Huskies in their final tilt of the season. St. Cloud State University fell 24-13 to Minnesota State University of Moorhead. The Huskies fall to 4-7 (3-4 NSIC North) while MSU-Moorhead improved to 6-5 (5-2 NSIC North).
Offensively, The Huskies were led by Curtwan Evans (Sr., RB, Bloomingdale, Ill.) with 93 rushing yards on 14 carries. Joe Blando (So., RB, Oak Creek, Wis.) added 68 yards on the ground and one touchdown on the day. Dwayne Lawhorn (Sr., QB, Germantown, Wis.) threw for 202 yards and one touchdown. John Solberg (Sr., WR, Cambridge, Minn.) tallied 95 receiving yards on five receptions, one of those receptions was for a touchdown.
The Huskies received the kickoff and moved the ball well until stalling once they entered Dragons territory. SCSU tried to convert on fourth and short but came away empty handed. MSU-Moorhead marched down field and scored on their first passion to make the score 7-0.
The next possession the Huskies went three and out. After a short punt, MSU-Moorhead took advantage of a short field and scored on a 31 yard pass from Sinani to Richter to extend their lead to 14-0. After taking the kick, St. Cloud State fumbled a snap and turned the ball over on their own 23 yard line. The Dragons scored again on a six yard rush from Sinani.
SCSU started the second quarter by getting their first defensive stop of the day. Evans broke out a 25 yard run to get the ball into MSU-Moorhead territory. Adam Stage (Jr., K, Appleton, Wis.) attempted a field goal from 54 yards and missed wide left. MSU-Moorhead later drove the ball down field and kicked a field goal to make the score 24-0.
The SCSU offense put together a solid drive and got into field goal range again but Stage unfortunately hit the cross-bar. MSU-Moorhead took a 24-0 lead into halftime.
The Huskies defense made a stop coming out of halftime but the offense later stalled on their drive. After another defensive stop, the Huskies finally found their way into the end-zone on third and goal. Blando flipped into the end-zone for six but the Huskies failed to convert their two point attempt to make the score 24-6.
With the Dragons threatening to score, Devon Krzanowski (So., ILB, Fond Du Lac, Wis.) intercepted the MSU-Moorhead quarterback. St. Cloud State was unable to capitalize on the turnover and failed to score. The Huskies scored again to make the score 24-13. The two seniors connected for the final time in Huskies stadium to bring the Huskies within two scores.
