St. Cloud State had 315 yards of total offense while Bemidji had 575 yards of total offense. Both teams did most of their damage in the air, SCSU had 275 passing yards while Bemidji had 435 yards passing on the day. The Huskies rushed for 40 yards on the ground and Bemidji collected 140 rushing yards.
Dwayne Lawhorn (Sr., QB, Germantown, Wis.) threw for 207 yards with one touchdown on the day and added 18 rushing yards on six attempts. Justin Czech (Jr., QB, Chippewa Falls, Wis.) came in to relief Lawhorn midway through the fourth quarter and threw for 68 yards completing 3-of-6 passes, he added a three yard rushing touchdown as well. Anthony Carver (Sr., TE, Milwaukee, Wis.) had seven receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown. Tanner Teige (Jr., Big Lake, Minn.) also tallied 64 receiving yards on three catches. Ben Gutschow (Sr., DB, Amherst, Wis.) led the game in total tackles with 10, and Parker Buckley (Jr., Rice Lake, Wis.) caused a turnover with a big forced fumble.
After putting together a solid first drive, the Huskies worked their way into field goal range. A mishandled snap saw the play break down and the special teams unit struggled to recover from that which resulted in a turnover on downs.
Before the half, SCSU had another scoring opportunity but missed a field goal wide right just outside the 20 to keep the score at 17-0 going into half time.
After the Buckley forced fumble, the Huskies got new life and took full advantage of it by driving the ball 62 yards on seven plays. Lawhorn eventually connected with Carver for a 25 yard reception to cap off really nice drive.
The St. Cloud State offense remained stagnant until Czech came into the game to relieve Lawhorn in the fourth quarter. Czech marched the offense 66 yards down the field in four plays. Teige hauled in a nice pass from Czech for a 49 yard gain. A few more penalties gave the Huskies first and goal where Czech called his own number and scored from three yards out.
The Huskies will be back in action Saturday, November 09, 2019 at Huskies stadium to take on Minot State University. St. Cloud State has had recent success against Minot and will look to continue doing so to get back in the win column.
