Football returns home to host Minot State Saturday
11/7/2019 12:30:00 PM | Football
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – All roads lead home for the St. Cloud State University football team. With season winding down, the Huskies are looking to end it on a positive note as they host Minot State University at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 9.
With the Huskies hosting Minot state University, this seems like the perfect opportunity for St. Cloud State to steal a game at home. The Huskies will be looking in the mirror all game long as the Beavers come in with the same 3-6 (2-3 NSIC North) record.
The Huskies are .500 in Husky Stadium this year but have not lost a home game by more than six points. After falling 38-14 to Bemidji State last weekend, the Huskies are looking to rebound and get things going on both sides of the ball. St. Cloud State has only lost to the Minot State Beavers once in program history, a loss came two years ago at home by a score of 23-13. Other than that, SCSU has dominated the series. The Huskies could use some of that spark from previous years as the team can still salvage the season and finish in a top spot with two wins.
Live stats and video will be available during the game, and fans can also listen to play-by-play on AM 1390 Granite City Sports. Score updates will also be made on the team's official Twitter page (@SCSUHuskiesFB).
LISTEN TO THE NSIC FOOTBALL FORECAST
Here are the five things to know before Saturday's 1 p.m. kickoff:
34 – At home the Huskies are outscoring opponents 111-77. When playing at Huskies stadium, SCSU has put up a season-high 38 points not once but twice. The first time was against University of Minnesota-Crookston in a 38-0 win, and the other season high came against Southwest Minnesota State University where the Huskies dropped a 42-38 shootout. Expect to see the offense firing on all cylinders at home this weekend.
275 – Last weekend at Bemidji, both Dwayne Lawhorn and Justin Czech combined for 275 passing yards and two touchdowns. After Czech came in to relieve Lawhorn in the fourth quarter, he drove the offense down the field and called his own number for a rushing touchdown. Will both quarterbacks be featured in the offense to help take down Minot?
49 – The longest completion up to this point of the season came last weekend when Justin Czech found Tanner Teige for 49 yards. Can Teige and the rest of the receiving group put together more explosive pays to get the ball in the end-zone this week?
1 – The Huskies are currently on a four-game skid and will look to start a new streak by getting a much-needed home win against Minot. St. Cloud State is .500 at home this year and they are looking to improve on that mark by winning in front of the home crown and replacing the current streak with a winning one to close the season out.
23 – Adam Stage has gotten a touchback on 23-of-43 kickoffs, which is 11 more than all the teams St. Cloud State has faced this season. Stage also averages 1.11 kicks per contest and despite the NSIC weather, Stage has converted 10-of-15 field goals this year. Stage has even converted all 22 point after touchdown (PAT) attempts on the season. Stage continues to be a reliable special teams' player in all facets of the kicking game for the Huskies.
