
Former Husky football player Fred Williams signed by Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City -- The Kansas City Chiefs announced today that the NFL team has signed former St. Cloud State wide receiver Fred Williams to the practice squad.

Williams spent the last two seasons with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League.
Williams was a member of the Huskies squad from 2007 to 2010. He was named to five All-American teams in 2010, earning first team honor from the American Football Coaches Association, Daktronics, Inc., AP Little All-America and Don Hansen. He was named a second team All-American by D2football.com.
A three-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) team pick, Williams re-wrote the record book for receivers at St. Cloud State during his career. He left the program with single game records for passes caught (15), receiving yards (236-twice) and tocheown receptions (4-ties the record); single season records for passes caught (95) and receiving yards (1,616); and career records for passes caught (264) and receiving yards (3,804).
He caught a pass in 44 straight gmaes with the Huskies had 39 career touchdown receptions and fell short of the school record 43 held by Ben Nelson (a former Arena Football League standout). Williams became the third Husky to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a seson and the first to surpass the 3,000 yard plateau in a career.Â
The Huskies posted threer straight winning seasons from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, St. Cloud State posted a then school record ten win season (10-3 overall), made their third NCAA Football Playoffs appearance and advanced to the second round for only the second time in school history. The Huskies were ranked #12 in the final AFCA Division II Coaches Poll of the season.
