Huskies Down Augustana 31-6, Moro Ties Career Interception Record

St. Cloud, Minn. -- Jack Moro intercepted three passes, Phillip Klaphake rushed for a touchdown and threw for two scores and St. Cloud State University snapped a five game losing streak to Augustana College with a 31-6 win over the Vikings in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) game Saturday night at Husky Stadium.
The Huskies, ranked #20/#23 in this weeks Division II polls improved to 4-0 overall while the Vikings dropped to 2-2 on the season. It is the first 4-0 start for the Huskies since posting a 5-0 record to start the 2005 season. The win was the first over the Vikings for St. Cloud State head coach Scott Underwood, who played and coached for Augustana College.
With his three picks, Moro has tied the school record for career interceptions with 19. Dan Neubauer has held the record since the 1980 season. It marks the third time in his career that Moro has collected three interceptions in a game.
After a scoreless first quarter, Klaphake scored the first points of the game on a seven-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter and the Huskies led 7-0 at the half. Klaphake finished the game with 41 rushing yards and is two yards shy of 2,000 career rushing yards. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns.
The Huskies scored twice in the third quarter on a nine-yard touchdown reception by Renard Robinson and a 50-yard catch by Dan Brown to go up 21-0. Robinson caught three passes on the night for 43 yards. Damon Treat had five catches for 46 yards.
Augustana College completed a 14-yard touchdown play early in the fourth quarter from quarterback Trey Heid to Grant Gebhardt.
St. Cloud State finished the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 30-yard Eric Mielke field goal and 12 yard fumble recovery by defensive end Aaron Pavek.
St. Cloud State held the Vikings to 23 rushing yards and 139 passing yards. The Huskies rolled up 419 yards of total offense and had two long drives in the second half.
St. Cloud State will enter NSIC North Division play next Saturday at #9/#13 ranked Minnesota Duluth.
