St. Cloud State Women's Hockey trumps Minnesota State, 5-1

Mankato, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team (2-3-0, 1-0-0 WCHA) opened its 2014-15 WCHA season with a big 5-1 victory at Minnesota State University (0-3-0, 0-3-0 WCHA) on Friday, Oct. 17 in Mankato, Minn.
The Huskies dominated the contest from start to finish as they outshot the Mavericks 54-22 in the game. In the third period alone, SCSU iced the game by outshooting MSU 24-5.
St. Cloud State's Amanda Arbogast jumped started the Huskies in the first period with her goal at 7:43 as Abby Ness carded the lone assist on the play. SCSU's Audrey Hanmer tallied the game winning goal at 16:45 of the first period with an assist from Hanna Brodt. To complete the opening period, Lauren Hespenheide's goal at 19:16 gave the Huskies a 3-0 margin. The assist on the goal was provided by Brittney Anderson.
Mankato broke the shutout at 13:34 of the second with their lone goal by Savannah Quandt. In the third period, the Huskies doused the comeback with a pair of goals to cap the night. Hanmer chalked up her second marker of the night with a goal at 11:04 of the third with a solo assist from Payge Pena. Ness ended the attack with the Huskies' fifth goal of the night at 11:24, which made the final scored 5-1.
As mentioned before, SCSU outshot the Mavericks 54-22 in the game, as the Huskies' Julie Friend contributed 21 saves in the win. Brianna Quade had 49 saves for MSU. On the power play, SCSU was 1-6 and MSU was 0-1.
