
SCSU Women's Hockey Falls Short to #6 Ranked Boston University

Minneapolis, Minn.----St. Cloud State opened up its regular season at the Ridder Arena in Minneapolis with a 5-2 loss against nationally ranked Boston University on Oct. 3.
BU found the back of the net first at 9:06 in the first period while on the power play, after SCSU's Abby Ness went to the box for her second penalty of the game.
The Huskies responded in the second period when a scrum in front of the net ended with a goal from sophomore Kelsey Saelens. The lone assist was credited to freshman Mackenzie Johnson. The Huskies were awarded three power play opportunities in the second period but failed to capitalize leaving the game tied 1-1 after two periods of play.
The third period started out with a penalty from sophomore Christa Moody for checking followed by sophomore Alex Makaric with an interference. Boston took advantage of the power play to make it 2-1 just 2:30 into the period. St. Cloud States junior transfer, Molly Illikainen, put up her first goal since joining the Huskies tying the game again at 2-2.
With only 4:49 seconds left in the game BU took control scoring three quick goals to make the final score 5-2. Julie Friend played a big role on the defensive end facing 39 shots in 60 minutes of play and saving 34 of them.
The Huskies return to Ridder Arena tomorrow, October 4th, with a 4:07pm start time against Penn State University.
