SCSU Takes 3-2 Victory Over RPI

Troy, New York---The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team (4-4-1, 2-1-1 WCHA) adds another Friday night win to their record this season with a 3-2 win over RPI (1-7-2, 0-2-0 ECAC) on Friday, Nov. 7 in Troy, New York.
The Huskies took an early lead after 2 quick goals were scored. Molly Illikainen scored her 6th goal of the year at 9:04 of the first period. SCSU was sent on the powerplay when RPI took the first penalty of the game at 9:04 in the first. Only 23 seconds into the powerplay, sophomore forward, Lauren Hespenheide, took a shot sending it over the goalies shoulder. This was Hespenheide's 2nd goal of the season with assists going to sophomore Alex Makaric and freshman Brittney Anderson.Â
RPI responded with back to back goals near the end of the first period, leaving the game 2-2 going into the second period. Play resumed and SCSU responded when Illikainen sent senior captain and forward, Abby Ness, on a short-handed breakaway, where Ness capitalized and scored her second goal this season.
Julie Friend gained her 4th win of the season between the pipes. St. Cloud was outshot 30-26 as Friend made 28 saves in 60 minutes of play. Her season record moves to 4-2-0, 2-0-0 WCHA.
