Men's Basketball Falls at Winona State, 89-68

Winona, Minn. – Winona State University has been solid at home this season and they showed that strength once again as the Warriors posted an 89-68 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over St. Cloud State Friday night at McCown Gymnasium in Winona.
The Huskies fell to 16-7 overall and 12-7 in the NSIC. The Huskies will play at Upper Iowa Saturday evening. Winona State improved to 21-5 overall and 16-3 in the NSIC. The Warriors remain in a first place tie in the NSIC with Minnesota State.
Winona State led this game from start to finish pulling away from the Huskies in the first half to take a 42-27 lead into intermission. The Warriors continued to maintain a comfortable cushion in the second half, leading by as many as 23 points with four and half minutes left in the game.
Three Huskies scored in double figures led by senior forward Matt Craggs (Kimberly, Wis.) and junior center James Fort (South Haven) with 13 points each. Craggs added seven rebounds and Fort had five boards.
First-year forward Seth Mortag (Brookfield, Wis.) came off the bench to score a season high nine points in ten minutes of play. He was three-of-five from the field and made all three of his free throw attempts. Sophomore guard Jordan Poydras (De Pere, Wis.) scored nine points and dished out six assists. Senior guard Damarius Cruz (Plymouth) added 12 points for the Huskies.
The Huskies shot 42.1 percent from the field and were an uncharacteristic five-of-23 from three –point range.
Winona State guard Riley Bambenek scored a game high 21 points on eight-of-13 shooting from the field, making all three of his three-point attempts. Isaiah Gray dropped in 16 points and guard Kellen Taylor nearly scored a triple double as he finished the game with ten points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
The Warriors shot 55.2 percent from the field, made 16-of-19 free throws and out-rebounded the Huskies 35-30.
