SCSU vs. BSU Baseball Splits Saturday, 8-0 & 2-3

St. Cloud, Minn. - St. Cloud State baseball and Bemidji State were back in action Saturday for their final doubleheader series at Joe Faber Field. It was a split decision as the Huskies came away with game one 8-0 but the Beavers ended a scoreless game in the ninth for a 3-2 victory.
The Huskies opened the day with an 8-0 victory over Bemidji State, which featured a six-hit shutout by SCSU pitcher Logan Spitzack. The Huskies gained the winning run in the first inning when a double by Brandon Arnold scored Eric Loxtercamp to make it 1-0.
SCSU iced the contest in the fourth inning with a grand slam by Zak Hoffman provided the Huskies with a 5-0 lead. Hoffman's blast down the left field line scored Reese Gregory, Zach Hoffmann and Mike Jurgella.
In the fifth inning, SCSU completed the game's scoring with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gregory's single scored Jurgella and Arnold, while Zak Hoffman charted another RBI with a single that scored Max Ditty.
Spitzack was the pitcher of record in the game with two strikeouts and six hits allowed. The victory moved his season record to 3-1. BSU's Derek Masberg was the losing pitcher for BSU with 10 hits and eight runs allowed in 4.2 innings of work. On the day, SCSU outhit the Beavers 12-6.
St. Cloud fell to the Beavers in game two by a final score of 3-2, which included eight scoreless innings. Bemidji State took the first lead of the game in the top of the ninth as Tyler Nelson doubled down the right field line for the 1-0 lead. It was followed by another double this time by Chad Hanson to take a 3-0 lead over the Huskies.
The Huskies made a run for the win in the bottom of the inning but fell short as they scored two runs on three hits including a RBI single by Sam Boisner and Garrett Fischer.
Starting on the mound for St. Cloud in game two was Ryan Diers as he pitched 3.1 innings of work allowing only two hits. Pitching 5.2 innings and pitcher of record was Reese Gregory, striking out four. Gregory is now 8-2 on the season. The winning pitcher for BSU was Tyler Saeugling with 0.2 innings of work, while Drake Huggans earned the save pitching the ninth inning.
