Baseball Rolls Over Minnesota Crookston, 20-0 & 15-2

Moorhead, Minn. – St. Cloud State baseball and Minnesota Crookston held their doubleheader matchup on Wednesday in Moorhead as the game was unable to be played in Crookston. The Huskies rolled past the Golden Eagles as they won 20-0 and 15-2.
In game one, St. Cloud went up on the Golden Eagles early scoring one run on one hit in the first as Zach Hoffmann singled to left field. They came back in the second putting up 11 runs on 10 hits and two Crookston errors for a 12-0 lead. Out of the 10 hits by the Huskies Zach Hoffmann tripled to center field and Michael Jurgella and Zak Hoffman both hit doubles.
The Huskies continued to move their lead scoring three runs in the third and then five in the fifth for a final score of 20-0. SCSU ended the game tallying 22 total hits.
Earning the win and starting pitcher for St. Cloud was Logan Spitzack for five innings of work allowing only three hits and struck out five. Karsen Forsman finished the game to pitch two innings and striking out three. Spitzack moves his season record to 2-1 with the win.
Game two was of similar fate with a different start as Crookston took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second off a sacrifice bunt. SCSU came back to put up six run on seven hits in the top of the third making it a 6-1 game. The inning included a two-run double by Michael Jurgella and by Reese Gregory. Crookston was able to grab another run in the bottom of the third but that was all as St. Cloud scored eight runs on seven hits and one UMC error in the fourth widening the gap to a 14-2 game. Zach Hoffman was the big hitter in the inning posting a two-run double to left center.
St. Cloud gained one more run in the top of the seventh inning for a 15-2 victory over the Golden Eagles. The Huskies finished the game with 19 hits to mark their third straight game hitting double digits.
On the mound pitching four innings and earning the win was Ryan Diers as he struck out four batters. Diers now holds a 1-1 record on the season. Also seeing action in the game each pitching one inning was Scott Sanderson, Nick Maiers and Adam Harlander.
St. Cloud State (21-6, 10-3 NSIC) are scheduled to be back in action on April 12-13 as they hold their home opener against the University of Sioux Falls. Game times are set for 12 p.m. Saturday and Sunday from Joe Faber Field.
