St. Cloud State Drop in Tight Battle to Bemidji State

Bemidji, Minn. --- The St. Cloud State Huskies (2-6-1, 0-6-1 WCHA) lost a close 3-1 battle on Oct. 30 to the #6 Bemidji State Beavers (7-2-2, 4-2-1 WCHA).
Both teams had opportunites to score in the first period but neither team found success. The Huskies had a season high of shots in a period as they out shot Bemidji 12-10 in the first period of play.
SCSU goaltender Katie Fitzgerald faced 23 shots in the first two periods of play but held strong in net to keep the game tied 0-0 heading into the third. The Huskies added 9 shots to their total in the second period, which is a season high of shots in a game for the Huskies in WCHA play.
As the final 20 minutes unfolded, Bemidji found themselves on the board with two goals. SCSU responded with 1:28 remaining in the game when Lauren Hespenheide charted her second goal of the season to close the lead 2-1. Assists were awarded to Molly Illikainen and Kelsey Saelens. Fitzgerald headed to the bench to give SCSU an extra attacker on the ice. Bemidji capitilized on the open net to end the game with a 3-0 score.
The Huskies add to their recent penatly kill success as they killed off four in tonights game. This marks 19 straight penalty kills with no goals against for the Huskies.
The shots went back and forth throughout the contest and ended at 30-29 for the Beavers.
