#5 St. Cloud State baseball collects two more victories

The #5 St. Cloud State University baseball team (20-0, 4-0 NSIC) remained undefeated this season thanks to another doubleheader sweep at Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa on March 21. Â In game one, the Huskies charted a 6-1 victory and they completed the day with a 12-0 win over the Peacocks in game two.
In game one, SCSU outhit the Peacocks 10-2 as Ryan Diers posted a two hitter that included 10 strikeouts in the complete game victory. Â The Huskies opened with two runs in the first, two runs in the third, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to ice the win. Â
Brandon Arnold was 3-of-4 in the game with two runs, while Eric Loxtercamp had two hits and two runs. Â Zach Hoffmann and Kyle Lieser also had two hits apiece in the game.
In the night cap, SCSU outhit UIU by a 14-3 margin. Â The Huskies piled up six runs in the third and three runs in the sixth to run away with the game. Â Logan Spitzack was the pitcher of record with 5.0 innings of work and eight strikeouts.
Hoffmann had two hits, two runs, three RBIs and a homer in the contest, while Reese Gregory had three hits for the Huskies. Karl Sorensen also had two hits in the game. Â Of note, Arnold saw his 19-game hitting streak come to an end in the game.
SCSU will continue its season on March 28-29 with NSIC doubleheaders at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
