#3 St. Cloud State baseball splits twinbill at Augustana

The #3 St. Cloud State University baseball team (23-1, 7-1 NSIC) split a doubleheader at Augustana College (13-10) on Sunday, March 29 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The second game loss snapped SCSU's school record 23-game winning streak, which is also the best start to any season in the history of the program. Â In game one, SCSU posted a 7-0 victory before falling 13-5 in game two at Augustana.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before adding one more run in the second inning to make it 3-0. Â In the third inning, the Huskies padded their lead with three more runs to push the score to 6-0. Â SCSU added one more run in the fifth innning to ice the decision at 7-0.
Brandon Arnold paced SCSU with three hits, two RBIs and one run, while Eric Loxtercamp and Beau Fandel each had two hits to their credit. Â Fandel also scored three SCSU runs in the game, while Zach Hoffmann added a double. Â In the game, SCSU outhit Augie 10-3.
On the mound, Logan Spitzack was solid with the complete game three hitter that featured two strikeouts in seven innings of work.
In game two, SCSU allowed Augie to take five runs in the first and eight runs in the second inning on the way to their first loss in 2015. Â The Huskies rallied with two runs in the third and two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh but it wasn't enough to get back into the game.
At the plate, Augustana outhit the Huskies 14-11. Â Mike Jurgella had three hits to lead SCSU, while Karl Sorensen and Loxtercamp each had two hits apiece. Â In the third inning, Arnold belted a two-run homer that scored Loxtercamp for the Huskies.
On the mound, SCSU's Bryan Rohde was the pitcher of record with four runs allowed while Kevin Bolder finished the game with 6.1 innings of shutout relief work that included seven strikeouts.Â
The Huskies will continue their 2015 season on March 31 with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn. Â KVSC Sports will broadcast the game live on the KVSC Sports Stream with Declan Goff.
