#2 St. Cloud State baseball sweeps Mustangs on April 12

The #2 St. Cloud State University baseball team (33-3, 17-3 NSIC) charted a two-game sweep against NSIC rival Southwest Minnesota State University (14-18, 7-9 NSIC) on a wind swept Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, MInn. on Sunday, April 12. In game one, the Huskies scored a 12-1 victory before ending the day with a 14-4 win in game two against SMSU.
Reese Gregory improved to 7-0 in the season with a five-hit win over SMSU in game one. He posted five strikeouts in the game and pitched 6.0 innings before Adam Harlander ended the game with one inning of relief work.
SCSU grabbed an early lead in the game with five runs in the first inning and two runs in the second inning. Home runs by Brandon Arnold and Zak Hoffman drove the Huskies during that stretch. SMSU scored its lone run in the third inning on a homer but the Huskies replied with two more runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth inning to gain the win.
At the plate, SCSU outhut SMSU 16-5 in the game. Eric Loxtercamp had three hits in the game, while Arnold also had three hits and three runs. Max Ditty, Zak Hoffman and Sam Boisner also had two hits apiece for the Huskies in game one.
In the nightcap, the Huskies pounded out 17 hits to win the game by the 10-run rule in eight innings. The crowning blow was a grand slam homer by Loxtercamp in the bottom of the eighth that iced the win.
SCSU opened the game with three runs in the first inning before SMSU rallied with four runs in the second. The Huskies and starting pitcher Sheldon Miks then held firm on defense with shutout ball the remainder of the game. Miks finished the complete game with five strikeouts and six hits allowed. He is now 6-0 on the season.
The Huskies regained the lead with two runs in the third and pushed the lead with one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth to make it 8-4. In the bottom of the eighth, SCSU added six more runs to complete the day at 14-4.
Loxtercamp was on fire at the plate with four hits, four RBIs, three runs, a double and the grandslam. On the day, Loxtercamp had seven hits, five RBIs and four runs scored. On the weekend, Loxtercamp finished with 11 hits for the Huskies.
Karl Sorensen also had a home run in the game along with three hits and two RBIs, while Mike Jurgella and Beau Fandel each had two hits and two RBIs for SCSU.
The Huskies will continue their 2015 season on Wednesday, April 15 with a 1:30 twinbill against the University of Mary at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
