Huskies stay alive in Regional play with 2-0 win over MSSU

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (52-4) stayed alive in NCAA Division II Central Region tournament play with a 2-0 extra inning victory over Missouri Southern State University (40-14) on Friday, May 15. The game was played today at Bob Cross Park in Sauk Rapids, Minn.
The number one seeded Huskies will now advance to face the Southern Arkansas on Saturday, May 16 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. Â The game will be played at approximately 1 p.m. (or 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one on May 16. Â The first game of the day on May 16 will feature Minnesota State and Henderson State at 10 a.m. Â Both MSU and HSU own 2-0 records in the regional tournament, while SCSU and SAU are 1-1 in tournament play. Â Of note, the loss eliminated Missouri Southern State from Central Region tournament play.
The Huskies relied on a sterling pitching performance by All-Central Region Pitcher of the Year Reese Gregory, who tallied a completed game two-hit shutout that included five strikeouts and only 32 batters faced in the contest. Â The victory improved Gregory's season mark to 12-0, which sets a new team record for most wins in a season. Â He only allowed one walk in the game and did not allow a hit until the bottom of the seventh inning.
SCSU outhit the Lions 8-2 in the contest and scored the two winning runs in the top of the 10th inning. Â
Eric Loxtercamp opened the 10th inning with a walk and was advanced to second on a sac bunt by Brandon Arnold. Â A single by Mike Jurgella moved Loxtercamp to third base, which set up the game winning RBI single by Zach Hoffmann. Â Jurgella advanced to third on the play and later added the second run with a sac fly by Karl Sorensen.
Loxtercamp led SCSU with three hits in the contest, while Beau Fandel had a double and two hits in the game for the Huskies.
