Huskies earn 10th win of season with big win over Briar Cliff

The St. Cloud State University baseball team rolled to a 21-4 victory over Briar Cliff on Thursday, March 10. The victory in Tucson, Ariz. improved SCSU's record to 10-0 on the season.
The Huskies outhit the Chargers 25-9 in the contest. SCSU jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning and stretched its lead to 6-1 i the second inning. Briar Cliff rallied with two runs in the third inning before the Huskies ignited for nine runs in the third to seal the game. The Huskies went on to score two runs apiece in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning to push the game final to 21 runs.
Karl Sorensen, Zach Hoffmann, Mathew Meyer, Jackson Goplen, Cody Rutledge and Judd Davis all had three hits apiece. Davis also added five RBIs in the game and three walks. Hoffmann had two doubles against Briar Cliff, while home runs for SCSU were collected by Sorensen, Goplen and Rutledge.
Cal Giese started the game for SCSU and went 5.0 innings (and gained the victory for SCSU). David Kroger, Bryan Rohde, Ryan Wesley and Beau Fandel also saw action pitching for the Huskies. SCSU's pitchers chalked up 11 strikeouts in the game.
SCSU will enjoy an off day in Arizona on March 11 before returning to action on March 12 with a game in Tucson against Valley City State University at Noon (MT).
