The #2 St. Cloud State University baseball team improved to 11-0 on the 2016 season with a 5-1 victory over Valley City State on Saturday, March 12. The game was played in Tucson, Ariz.
The Huskies' Karl Sorensen, Zach Hoffmann and Reese Gregory all scored runs in the fourth inning to give SCSU a 3-0 lead. The Huskies then pushed their lead to 5-0 with runs by Gregory and Zach Metzger in the fifth inning. Valley City scored its lone run in the seventh inning.
In the contest, Gregory and Metzer each had two hits apiece and Judd Davis had three hits to lead SCSU at the plate. On the day, SCSU had 10 hits in the game.
On the mound, Dominic Austing gained the victory with five innings of work on the mound. He had four strikeouts and allowed just four hits. On the day, SCSU allowed just one run, seven hits and combined for eight strikeouts.
SCSU will continue its Arizona trip on March 13 with a game in Tucson vs. Dickinson State.
