Baseball Rolls To 19-7 and 10-3 Wins Over Dickinson State on Sunday

The St. Cloud State University baseball team moved its 2016 record to 13-0 with 19-7 and 10-3 victories over Dickinson State University on Sunday, March 13, in a scheduled doubleheader in Tucson, Ariz. as part of the Huskies spring break trip. SCSU is slated to complete its trip to the desert with a game on March 14 against Mount Marty and a March 15 game against Northern State.

In the first game against Dickinson, SCSU tallied 18 hits in the contest while limiting DSU to just nine hits in seven innings of play. SCSU got on the board early with a run in the first inning and two runs in the second. The Huskies exploded in the fourth with six runs across the plate, followed by six more runs in the fifth inning and four runs in the sixth inning to ice the contest. DSU had two runs in the first and then charted runs in the second and fourth inning before adding two more runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh.

Ryan Diers started the game for SCSU on the mound with four runs allowed and two strikeouts over 3 2/3 inning of work. David Kroger (1-0) and Zak Hoffman came in to finish the game in relief. On offense, Kyle Lieser sparked the Huskies with four hits, while Hoffman had three hits, one homer and five RBIs in the game. Mathew Meyer and Reese Gregory also had home runs of for the Huskies in the contest.

The second game was scoreless until the third inning when SCSU's offense exploded for nine runs on seven hits to take control. The Huskies added an insurance run in the fourth to end the game with 10 runs on 10 hits. The Hawks plated all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kevin Bolder (2-0) started and went the first six innings for SCSU on the mound. He allowed give five hits, walked a pair and struck out seven. Kyle Boser threw a scoreless frame in relief for the Huskies with one strikeout. On offense, Karl Sorensen had a pair of hits and knocked in three. Gregory drove in two runs. Cody Rutledge, Jackson Goplen, Meyer, Brandon Arnold, Logan Swann and Judd Davis all registered an RBI.
