#1 St. Cloud State scores 5-1 win over Minnesota State

The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University baseball team (22-0, 7-0 NSIC) continued its unbeaten streak in 2016 with a 5-1 win over Minnesota State University (14-9, 5-4 NSIC) on Wednesday, April 6 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Reese Gregory doubled. He later scored the game's first run when Zach Metzger singled him home. In the fifth inning, SCSU padded its lead to 2-0 with an RBI double by Karl Sorensen that scored Kyle Lieser.
Minnesota State broke the shutout in the seventh inning with a solo run to make the total 2-1. The Huskies iced the contest in the bottom of the eighth inning when Lieser scored in an RBI single by Zak Hoffman. Gregory doubled to advance Hoffman to third base before a double by Metzger added two more runs to make the final score 5-1.
SCSU sophomore Sheldon Miks was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with a complete game victory. He allowed just six hits in the game, one run, no walks and struck out nine batters. The victory moves his season record to 6-0 in 2016.
The Huskies outhit Minnesota State 10-6 as Metzger lead SCSU with three hits and three RBIs. Lieser had two hits, two walks and two runs scored in the game, while Gregory also had two hits and two runs.
Of note, due to the cold weather in St. Cloud on April 6, the scheduled second game of the doubleheader was cancelled. The coaches from both teams determined in advance to limit play to just the one nine inning game today due to the cold weather. The second game will not be made up.
SCSU will continue its 2016 season on April 9 and April 10 with doubleheaders against NSIC rival Upper Iowa. The action will begin at Noon on each day at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. Tickets for these games may be purchased at the gate. All SCSU students will be admitted FREE with their valid SCSU student ID card.
