SCSU baseball stays alive with 10-4 win over Missouri Western State

The victory advances SCSU in the regional bracket and sets up a 3:00 p.m. game on Saturday, May 21 against the loser of today's game between Central Missouri and Emporia State, which will be played at 8:30 p.m. tonight at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies opened the game in the first inning with a home run by Reese Gregory before Missouri Western knotted the game at 1-1 at the end of the first inning.
In the second inning, SCSU charted five runs to take control of the game. Â The Huskies charted all five runs with two outs on the board as Zach Metzger, Logan Swann, Judd Davis, Brandon Arnold and Kyle Lieser all scored for the Huskies in the inning.
In the fifth inning, SCSU added two more runs to take an 8-1 lead thanks to back-to-back home runs by Zach Hoffmann and Zak Hoffman. Â In the eighth inning, Davis scored and Zak Hoffman also scored in the ninth inning to finish the scoring at 10-4.
In the contest, SCSU outhit Missouri Western by a 17-13 margin. Â Sheldon Miks opened the game on the mound for SCSU with 2.0 innings of work that featured three strikeouts. Â Dominic Austing was the pitcher of record for SCSU with 4.0 innings of work that included five strikeouts and four hits allowed. Â Tyler Gentz and Miles Nablo each provided relief innings of pitching to finish the game for SCSU.
At the plate, Zak Hoffman had four hits, two runs and one RBI and Davis had three hits, two runs and one RBI. Â Arnold, Gregory and Metzger also had two hits for SCSU.
The loss knocks Missouri Western out of play in the NCAA Central Regional.
