A trio of home runs helped the #3 St. Cloud State University baseball team (36-6, 21-6 NSIC) generate the offense they needed to gain a two-game sweep over NSIC leader Minnesota Duluth (33-11, 26-6 NSIC) on Wednesday, May 4 at Joe Faber Field. In game one, SCSU scored a 3-2 victory and then rallied in the ninth inning to earn a 5-4 decision in game two.
The Huskies relied on a three-run home in game one by Zach Metzger to ice the win and then they took advantage of a two-run homer by Reese Gregory in the eighth inning and a three-run homer by Judd Davis in the ninth to claim the win in game two.
In game two, UMD charged to a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning and then added one more run in the eighth inning before the Huskies broke the shutout in their half of the eighth. Gregory blasted a two-run shot that scored Brandon Arnold to narrow the gap to 4-2.
