Huskies split doubleheader at Minot on May 6

The St. Cloud State University baseball team (37-7, 22-7 NSIC) split a NSIC doubleheader at Minot State University on Friday, May 6 in Minot, N.D.
The Huskies opened the day with a close 7-5 loss against the Beavers and then replied in game two with an 11-8 victory over Minot State. The two teams will continue their weekend series in Minot with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. These will be the final regular season games of the season for the Huskies.
In game one, Minot owned a 5-1 lead after three innings of play and then padded it to 6-1 with one more run in the fourth inning. The Huskies found their offensive groove later in the contest with two runs in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth inning to close the gap to 6-5 before the Beavers rallied with a solo run in the bottom of the sixth inning to ice the game.
SCSU was led by Reese Gregory, who had a two run homer in the sixth inning. This was Gregory's school record 17th home run of 2016. Zak Hoffman and Mathew Meyer also had two hits apiece in the game as runs were tallied in the game by Gregory, Kyle Lieser, Zach Hoffmann, Zak Hoffman and Jackson Goplen.
Cal Giese was the pitcher of record for the Huskies, while Miles Nablo completed the final 3.0 innings of the game with just one run allowed. In the game, Minot outhit the Huskies 12-7.
In game two, SCSU scored one run in the top of the first before Minot charged back with three runs in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1. The Huskies then rallied with two run in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to regain the lead at 6-4. The see-saw battled continued as Minot charted two runs in the fourth to tie the game at 6-6.
The Huskies took charge once more in the sixth inning with four runs to make it 10-6, before Minot scored once more in that inning to make it 10-7. The two teams traded runs in the eighth and ninth inning to make the final tally 11-8, as Minot State outhit the Huskies 13-9 in the game.
SCSU was charged at the plate by home runs from Brandon Arnold, Zach Hoffmann, Jackson Goplen and Judd Davis. Goplen, Arnold and Karl Sorensen also had two hits apiece in the game for the Huskies.
On the mound, Nablo gained the win in relief of starter Dominic Austing. Nablo pitched 4.0 inning in the contest with four strikeouts and one run allowed. Austing had five strikeouts in 4.0 IP, while Bryan Rhode, David Kroger and Kevin Bolder completed the game in relief.
